Enjoy the first day
Arrive early in the morning and drive along the River Ganges to and later along the Alaknanda to our deluxe camp on the banks of the river Alaknanda at Jayalgarh. After breakfast your trip leader will brief you on the expedition and inform you of what to expect. This will be followed by an exhaustive briefing on rafting techniques and safety procedures. Post briefing you will have an early lunch and go for a session of white water rafting on the Lower Alaknanda starting from Jayalgarh and ending at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers at Deorprayag.On the way to Deorprayag our trip leaders will teach you various techniques of paddling, swimming,flips,re-flips,eddi in, eddy out, navigation technique and rescue. This is a perfect stretch to get you ready for the big and fast waters of the upper Alaknanda with a number of Class II and III rapids. Return to the camp at the end of the rafting trip and in the evening and relax on the beach under the star spangled sky. Overnight in the camp.
Enjoy the amazing activities
After a leisurely breakfast at 7 am you will get into the vehicles and drive along the Alaknanda to reach Chamoli. After reaching Chamoli we will make preparations for the exciting river trip .After a little rest and some snacks, we will start our expedition around 1pm. The day will start with a short practise drill and soon after get engrossed in some white water bashing. From the starting point itself we will come to know about the fast flowing Alaknanda river and its white water. Today we will cross a series of 14 to 15 rapids of grade class II to IV+ and will spend 3 to 4 hours on the river and we will finish today at Nandaprayag. In the evening the trip leader will again have a small session on safety procedures and will inform you on the local customs & culture. Overnight in the tents.
Enjoy the camp and have fin at campfire
This is the most challenging day of the trip with relentless Class IV/IV+ white water. The stretch has around 20 rapids and we will take about 5 hours to finish it. The day with a short practise drill and soon after get engrossed in some white water bashing. Today you will come face to face with the ‘Hillary Fall’ rapid named after the legendry climber who during his ‘Ocean to Sky’ expedition could not go up the rapid in his Jet boat. Depending upon the volume we run it or portage it.Today we will pass the town of Karanpraya where the Pinder River meets the Alaknanda. We end the day at a beautiful beach campsite. Today’s stretch is shorter than yesterday but has of class III+ to IV rapids to keep you paddling and soaked in water for about 4 hours and about 10 to 12 rapids. We end another day of battling the white waters of Alaknanda and camp on a beautiful sandy beach. Overnight in tents
The last day
This last day of rafting the upper stretches of Alaknanda has yet again one after the other class III+/IV rapids. You will take about 4-5 hours with a lunch break to reach the pull out at Rudraprayag. Just before Rudraprayag you will come to the Class 5 rapid called ‘Kakkar Fall’. Here there is massive constriction in the river. We will run it or line up the rafts depending upon the conditions. You will end the expedition near the confluence of Alaknanda with the Mandakini valley at Rudraprayag. From here you drive for about 4 hours to reach Haridwar from where you could take connecting transport to your onward destination.
