After breakfast, we drive down to Agra and by afternoon check into the hotel. After lunch, we visit the Agra Fort. This rusty and majestic red-sandstone fort was constructed in 1566 and stands on the banks of the river Yamuna. Later in the evening, we visit the magnificent Taj Mahal. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal is surely the most extravagant expression of love ever created. 20,000 men laboured for over 17 years to build this memorial for Shah Jahan's beloved wife. After this perfect end to a fabulous day, we head back to our hotel. Overnight stay at Agra.
Travel from Agra to Jaipur
After breakfast, our group drives to Jaipur. En route we visit Fatehpur Sikri, a perfectly preserved red sandstone "ghost town" which was the estranged capital of Mughal emperor Akbar. Fatehpur Sikri was built in 1569 and deserted when its water supply failed. By afternoon, we check into the hotel and relax. Second half of the day is at your own. May be you can indulge in shopping at Jaipur streets. Shopping recommendation - Bapu bazaar and Nehru bazaar. To fill your evening with colours of Rajasthan, we suggest a trip to Ethnic Village Chokhi Dhani (a five star status ethnic village, costing around Rs. 500/- or more). Enjoy the rustic Rajasthani hospitality along with some folk dances and fortune tellers. The desert people will mesmerize you with their art and charming hospitality. Overnight stay at Jaipur.
Sightseeing at Jaipur
Today we do some siteseeing at the pink city of India, Jaipur. We first visit the Amber Fort, which is a marvellous example of Rajput architecture. With its large ramparts and series of gates and cobbled paths, the fort overlooks Maota Lake. Did you know that the ascent to the Fort can also be done on a gaily caparisoned elephant? Try the ride if you wish. The Fort interior has various royal halls decorated with intricate ivory work, exquisite wall paintings and tiny mirror chips, which creates a tantalizing reflection effect. In the afternoon, we visit the City Palace Museum. The art work here is an imposing blend of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal arts. The museum is resplendent with its collection of robes of royal families, carpets, armoury of old weapons, and miniature paintings portraying court scenes, battle scenes and processions. Next stop is Jantar - Mantar. This is an accurate observatory and was built in 1726 AD. We now move to Hawa Mahal, the palace of winds. This is a a five storied wonder with a spectacular pyramidal facade and overhanging windows with latticed screens, domes and spires. The day ends here and we head back to our hotel.Overnight stay at Jaipur.
