"Nice experience"

  • Posted Apr 4, 2012
Hi all, let me write my very first review about something that I have greatly enjoyed, usually am not a book reader kind of person neither do I like to spend time to write reviews, lazzzyyyyy… but our recent experience has forced me to write this (we are currently travelling back to home)… my wifey is sleeping and I thought ‘chalo lets spend some time to guide couples who are looking for romantic experience at COORG (especially newly weds !!! ;-) ) So my hunt started for “Homestays” as they happen to be cocooned by an actual coffee estate.. woooooo…!!! I thought this will be really interesting. And here I go finalizing my search to this most wonderful home stay in COORG called HONEY POT HOMES, and to begin with, about this beautiful home stay I must start the history so that you all can understand this isn’t like those highly tourist driven commercial resort/ hotel. Honey Pot Homes are 4 cottages beautifully (I must say very romantically) constructed exactly in between the 200 acres coffee estate called Sandalkad Estates which are owned by Faizal and Shamveel families whom I have actually thought to be the managers for this homestay but was wrong, they own this huge & very valuable property ! the reason for me to stress about the people owning this estate is since these are families and again this is a home stay they seriously dont encourage ‘boozinggggg’ so all those drunkardsss you can now cancel this page…. Lol !!! Each cottage has got a king size bed and the romantic part is, the cottage is a duplex, you have a loft and just a mattress is laid there (this was aweeeesomeee !!!) , the place is so silent that after we reached there my ears started making that akashwani sound …. Beeeeeeeeeeeppp Reaching Madikeri is definitely a big task for people who come by public transport, but I would say it is better you don’t come by your vehicle, because Honey Pot Homes has got travels facility. About “places to visit” you can anyways get lot of info from other websites, but I would still tell you better take Honeypot’s car for site-seeing, there are 2 different packages each costs 1300, once you come out of the homestay and reach main road if you head towards left you reach Madikeri town and right is your way back to Mysore. So one package of site-seeing if towards left i.e., Madikeri town, this side of site-seeing covers Omkareshwara Temple, Baghmandla, TalKaveri, AbeyFalls and Raja’s Seat. The other way they will take you to Dubare Elephant Camp, Cauvery Nisragadhama, Tibetian Monastery / Golden Temple. (am not trying to market their site seeing packages but if you want to quickly cover places with no much effort then this is the best way ‘if it fits your pocket’). To talk about “how many days would be ideal to spend ?” then I must say 3 days, 2 days for site seeing and 1 day to spend time in the coffee plantation, will leisurely talk about the coffee plantations next. I am gonna take up from here …ooops forgot to introduce, this is the wifey he was talking about.  Our vacation included a Sunday , so we decided to stay back and relax in the estate on Sunday but “relaxing in the estate” was a definite misconception. Exploring the estate proved to take more time than the site seeing. Well, to start as to how our “exploration” started ..I need to take you back to one day prior. We had just finished seeing the Madikeri part and were relaxing in our cottage, when at around 10’ o clock in the night, Faizal ringed our bell to ask us if we are interested to join them in a night safari!!! Just kidding..there’s no such night safari (may be they might start this very soon), but an interesting animal called “Civet cat” was spotted just then and we set out to see it. And about this animal, we would rather not tell you and also suggest you not to Google it out if you wish to experience it personally . And that’s how it all started…our craze to spot the animal during the night and exotic birds during the day !!! The idea of bird watching (ornithology) was given by Faizal. The following day started out unexpectedly exciting…coz my hub woke up early and suggested that we go out for bird watching else we would be miss a lot of fun! And he was damn right !!! We spotted very beautiful and exotic birds for 2 long hours and went deep into the coffee plantation without our knowledge. When our stomachs grumbled for breakfast , we returned to our cottage and had a yummy breakfast in the tree house , while still watching out for more birds . It was the best breakfast we’ve ever had…Mean while Mustafa (who takes care of the guests) asked us if we were interested to go to the estate’s stream …YES !!! these people have a private stream (exclusive to Honey Pot Homes’ guests)!!! It wouldn’t be an exaggeration if I tell you that you’ll be reminded of those movies where hero and heroines enjoy the romantically running stream. It will remind you of those moments when you would have promised to yourself that “I SHOULD BE IN SUCH A PLACE FOR ATLEAST ONCE IN MY LIFETIME”. By the time we came back, Faizal was ready with some other guests to take us for a coffee plantation tour for about an hour. Though we were very tired and planned to skip it, we thought we might miss something important and which we might not have explored on our own. Again, we were right !!! He showed us all the back end processes of extracting the coffee bean and drying them up before selling them. This tour was very informative. You will definitely come to know what is the right kind of coffee… . There was a bon fire request by other guests in the night and they invited us over. We joined them for about half an hour after which we set out with Faizal and Shamveel for an other round of Civet cat search. We were not as lucky as our first time experience to watch at a close distance though. The following day , we set out for the Kushalnagar part. The first place we went was the Dubare elephant camp. Since it was our second wedding anniversary , we thought it would be auspicious to see spend our time with the elephants. A very interesting place again . Then followed the Kaveri Nisargadhamam and The Golden Temple. Mazar, our driver cum guide showed an immense patience in giving all the details about every place we have visited…… Ufff ! this is me again, hubby ;-) my wifey is busy serving food so let me finish off the rest real quick here, the places that she was mentioning were actually visited on our last day’s stay, that evening after visiting Omkareshwar Temple, shopped for few traditional sarees and that’s it we were very tired, after we ‘ve reached Honey Pot home stay had a nice meal and slept off, the following day morning we went to Faizal and Shamveel’s residence which is just above all the homestay on tip of the the hill, we thanked them for their hospitality and also thanked Mazar, Janardhan and Mustafa for treating us very well and making our stay the most unforgettable. Next day we visited Mysore Palace and travelled to Hyderabad. Hope this review helped you in making some valuable decisions to make your vacation memorable. This will be a real tough task for us, as we have only 1 train i.e., from Kacheguda at 11:45PM and you will reach mysore next day evening 04:10PM, from there it’s the same like mentioned above. While returning from Madikeri-travelbybus->Mysore-travelbytraintoBLR->Bangalore-travelbytraintoHYD But this isn’t as easy as I typed, this requires lot of planning because this is probability with 3 places and multiple options however I would suggest the below one From Madikeri take Volvo at 01:00PM and reach Mysore by 03:30PM From Mysore take Bangalore express at 04:20PM and reach B’lore around 08:00PM From Bangalore take Rajdhani express so that you can aaramse reach HYD next day morning by 07:00AM. Ah! This is now too much of writing, alrite guys lastly I would say just one thing, I am glad that my search went really fine over internet and that I have chosen Honey Pot Homes over many others, the complete staff and owners of this coffee estate have made our 2nd wedding anniversary another colorful experience so considering which we would strongly suggest you to opt for this, and we wish you all a great holiday experience and yeah ! a romantic one toooo ;-) Pavan_metalz@yahoo.co.in

"It was a horrible experience"

  • Posted Apr 1, 2012
It was a horrible experience in the Honey Pot Homes. It is not worth of money rather a wastage of money. The cottages are ok to stay but the service is terrible. If you have a kid request everybody to avoid this place as they do not care about helping a parent with the food and other amenities.

Best Experience: The property was good but if the service and people are not good then what is the use of a nice homestay?

Worst Experience: I ask simple Dal and rice for my 2 year old baby but they deny to give that and served only Rice.If a person is paying Rs 4000 per night then can't you expect lil dal also for your baby? This is the worst homestay I have ever stayed.

"Nice experience"

  • Posted Feb 25, 2012
I along with my family spent 4 nights at Honeypot homes. We booked all the 4 cottages, and the whole property was ideal for a family reunion. By far the best holiday experience i had for many years.

Best Experience: The hosts were very courteous and very down to earth. They had managed every aspect of our stay very professionely. The plantation tour and the night walk in the estate looking for flying squirells was an amazing experience. The food was mouth watering and the cottages very clean and beautifully made.

Worst Experience: Nothing
