- Not a nice place to stay

The owner, Mr. S Sharma, is a very pleasing person to speak to. That is where the good of this hotel ends. Mr. Sharma is very helpful too but behind this helpful voice is an attitude to fleece the customer to no end. He gave us a pick up from Pendra Road Railway Station to Amarkantak and back to Pendra Road for Rs.2400 where the market rates were anywhere between Rs.1400-1600.
He offered us a tour of Amarkantak for Rs.2000 where the normal taxi rates were anywhere between Rs.700-900. Lucky for us we opted for a local taxi for Rs.700 thus saving Rs.1300 outright for the sight-seeing tour. As per his demand we paid a full amount for the room for 2 nights and told him specifically that we would be three adults and a child. We requested for a good room since we paid the full advance three months earlier. All we got was a Double Room in one corner of the hotel which was (perhaps) used as the Hotel Store Room for, time and again the hotel staff came knocking in to take out stuff from a cupboard inside the room. When we asked for at least one more pillow the response was, "we have no stock"!
Atrocious, you take advance for 3 people and give pillows for two and then you say,"No stock" !! Amarkantak was cold end-December, 2014. We asked for some extra blanket. Obviously these were not available. Where other rooms had blankets we were provided with only the bed-cover. Lucky for us we had our own woollen shawls. The room had a mosquito-repellant kit but the refill was dry, there wasn't any repellant inside. Food : Tea here costs Rs.20 per cup ! Vegetables are priced at Rs.140 per plate whereas the same stuff outside, in the market, is available for Rs.40 a plate. Ask for tea at least 45 minutes before you actually need it, order breakfast at 0700 hrs if you want to have it at 1100 hrs. The reason ;shortage of staff ! Beat this, there was no drinking water in the room. The hotel looks neat from the outside, the owner is pleasant to speak to but beware : you have every chance of being fleeced out there.
