Wild flower retreat was a fantastic holiday experience for us. We had been to Sikkim for a family vacation, and we stayed at Borong for three days. We had found the hotel through a travelogue, and then on the internet, and booked it through an agent in Kolkata quite easily. We had been told that there are cottages and we would have one small and one family cottage for the seven of us. The cottages turned out to be beautiful wooden ones set apart from each other on the slope, surrounded by a partly groomed and partly wild garden. And when the sky cleared early in the morning, we were totally bowled over by the view of the himalayas. Every morning we were up at 4 am, waiting to catch the first glimpse of the majestic peaks, and we were well rewarded! The show there is basically run by two young men from Kolkata, and they were very nice. They were ready to help with the luggage, serve hot food at the cottage in the middle of pouring rain, provide candles and extra blankets, and never grumbled. This is definitely one of the places I would like to go back to again.
Best Experience: The last evening at Borong there was a huge storm that resulted in a power cut. We enjoyed the storm from inside the cottage. The rain poured down for hours, and the beauty was immense. The staff indulged us by bringing in steaming tea and pakoras to the room, and then hot dinner, so that we did not have to step out in the rain and risk slipping on the stones.
The resort is one of the bird watcher paradise and situated 16 km from Ravangla placed called Borong and one of the best location around South Sikkim. Just a 25 minute drive from Ravangla. This is a basic resort but neat and clean. Best part is the surrounding environment. Small garden surrounding, the resort makes it more beautiful. The place is beautifully located and breath-taking, from where you can see the snow clad peaks. Whole day can hear different type of birds song everywhere. You will get to see different type of birds here. In the morning the view of the snow-capped mountain is really great, though Kanchenjunga is not visible from here (only the tip), but one can see the Mt. Narsing and Sinialchu. The resort area are filled with Rhododendron flowers. The owner Madhusudhan is very nice. The wooden cottages are beautiful. Rooms are neither too small nor too big. Bathroom is spacious with 24 hr running hot water. From the resort we could see the ranges from our balcony. The price to service is 100% justified. All rooms are almost good. There is a small dining hall inside the resort where you will get basic Indian and Chinese dishes. Dhanonjoy and his wife are in charge of hospitality and their Bengali dishes are awesome.
The Wildflower was a calm, peaceful retreat surrounded by greenery and a perfect way to get away from the nearby touristy towns of Sikkim. The retreat has two stay options, concrete rooms and wooden cottages. While the concrete rooms are a little closer to the worldly comforts, the cottages are best suited to get lost in the nature and its surroundings. Food was excellent and the service prompt and quick. This retreat can be used as a base camp for short one day treks into Bhanjan Valley, Maenam Peak and other close-by jungles. These treks are a good way to experience the local culture, appreciate the bird life and to discover some medicinal plants found around this area. Finally, I would highly recommend this retreat to all the nature lovers and bird watches out there.
Not much choice was available to choose an ideal accommodation as not many hotels in Borong were available. Our accommodation in this place was pleasant and safe. We were very much satisfied with the services here and the housing was excellent. Fresh and delicious food served here. Borong is a nice place to hang around.
Excellent place to visit if you want to get away from the noise of the city life. Here you can spend hours listening to the sounds of nature. You can also visit the hot spring located nearby after a brief trek
Best Experience: Hours of silence with the sounds of birds chirping around. Food and facilities are good, so are the cottages
