We chose Amanvana Spa Resorts for our first wedding anniversary & we couldn't make a better choice than this! Located right on the Mangalore-Mysore road, but completely away from from the hustle-bustle of the city life.
Amanvana is a premium luxury resort in Coorg, compared to the likes of very expensive Orange County, Tamara & Vivanta by Taj. Located on the banks of river Kaveri, from the moment you wake up to when you head to sleep, time at Amanvana is measured by the quiet magic of the revered River Kaveri. Among resorts in Coorg, Amanvana has the most intimate view of the river. The mesmerizing location of Amanvana makes it the perfect place to enjoy the picturesque beauty of Coorg.
We were treated with Bungalow no 107. The aesthetically pleasing bungalows at Amanvana have been designed with meticulous attention to delightful details and a perfect sense of harmony. Each bungalow comes with a private lawn, a lotus pond and a reading nook. There's also a special moon light in the ceiling to bring an air of enchantment to storytelling nights. In the morning, it's always wonderful to be woken up by over 18 varieties of bird song that replace your alarm clock.
The bathrooms at Amanvana are the USP. Clad with stone to enhance the naturalistic design of the bungalows, the bathrooms also feature luxury tubs, soothing white brick walls, and sky lit ceilings that make you feel one with nature even in the most private of spaces.
One of the highlights that make Amanvana the most popular resort in Coorg is the fascinating trek to the Eight Islands. You will be accompanied by a resort guide along lush green forests, rare bird sanctuaries and beautiful streams which are the major attractions of your journey. Special mention of extremely knowledgeable Saraswati (Activity manager) & tremendously helpful Anoop who were our guides for the Nature walk, Eight Island trek & Coffee plantation visit! All must-do activities at Amanvan!
Amanvana is a spa and resort destination, where you can enjoy a truly comprehensive list of spa therapies. As you descend the staircase that leads to our blissful spa, you enter a enchanting and relaxing world: imagine charmingly plush interiors, frog whispers from the lotus pond and the smiling faces of our caring staff. We tried the amazingly relaxing Ayurvedic massage & Signature wine facial, which felt like the cherry on the topic at our Amanvana trip. Special mention again for the staff & Vipith!
Dining at Amanvana is the only concern with very limited options at the Rainbow Room restaurant. We did try our hand at Coorgi dishes which were very delicious & filling. Special arrangements were made at the Coffee hut for our anniversary, which was a very kind gesture from the resort staff. The breakfast buffet is widespread with both Indian & Continental dishes.
Overall, an very relaxing & amazing beautiful experience at the Amanvana Spa Resort! A must try if you are in Coorg.
I had been to Bethel along with my family and friends in Mar 2013. I have selected this place based on the review. After reaching this place, we realized how true all these reviews which were written by previous visitors and i was happy that i have really selected a very good place for our vacation.
I must admire Mr. Rakesh and his team who run this homestay, for the unlimited service they provided. The host Mr.Rakesh would make sure that each and everyone needs whether you require hot water or lukewarm water, milk for kids, curd rice whatever it is. Kudos to Rakesh and his team.
We started from Bangalore around 6AM morning. By 6:45AM I got a call from Mr.Rakesh and asked us about our whereabouts. Afterwards he kept on calling for every 45 mins to make sure that we were driving on the right direction till we reached there. We reached this place around 1 PM and Mr. Rakesh welcome us with lemon juice. In another 1 hour he has arranged for very delicious lunch. Then he inquired about our plans about visiting nearby places and he had guided what are all the spots we can cover during our stay. We were treated as if we were staying on our own place. I have not seen or experienced such kind of care and hospitality by anyone else.
The food was awesome, rich breakfast, masala omelette, both south Indian and north Indian dishes. Evenings we had varieties of unlimited snacks, starters amidst bonfire.. I really don't know how Rakesh and team were able to provide such an awesome food in the thick forest. We had never seen Rakesh saying no to our needs.
Next day Mr.Rakesh took us for early morning trekking and had good breakfast. Later he took us to small stream close to the resort. We liked the stream very much especially my daughter. In fact he taught swimming to everyone of us very patiently which is unforgettable in our life time. During our whole stay he was telling about the nearby spots, different types of animals, birds & their behaviours and natures. In fact he was educating us about natures.
The location is wonderful amidst forests, very close to nature. There are plantations around and morning experience was very pleasant with chirp of birds. The rooms were spacious with both western and Indian commodes and kept very clean. We had most memorable and fantabulous experience at Bethel Homestay. I am waiting my next visit to Bethel.
I highly recommend that it is really worth visiting this place no matter whether you want to do trekking, river rafting or relaxation.
Best Experience : Food, Early Morning trekking within the resort, Enjoyable nature, Stream close to the resort. Worst experience : None.
Stayed here for 3 nights with family (with kids and my parents) in Deluxe Balcony rooms (101 and 201).
Pros - 1) Wonderful location, right next to the Harangi reservoir with a backdrop of hills and mountains. Beautiful and very serene. A perfect place to relax and make it a base camp for visiting Coorg. 2) An awesome infinity swimming pool overlooking the reservoir (not very big though) 3) Great food. Enjoyed the lunch and dinner spreads. Good variety and good taste (am vegetarian, so I cannot comment on the non-vegetarian food) 4) Good rooms. Spacious and clean. But the bathrooms could have been better designed/maintained. This could be because our rooms were slightly old. The newer rooms ("The Nest") are supposed to have the best rooms. The independent cottages looked very appealing too. 5) Good service. Special thanks to Prashant (restaurant service) and Harish (housekeeping) for their valuable help and service with always a smile.
Cons - Approach road is not very good. Would give it a rating of 3 (out of 10). It is about 5-6 KM away from the main road and will take around 20 to 30 minutes to go by car. But given that Bangalore, the Hi Tech capital of the state itself has pathetic roads, you cannot expect a remote resort ensconced in nature have a well laid out super fast road! :). As we did not keep shuttling in and out of the resort often, this did not bother us much. One note - get into the resort before dark. Don't be driving out there late night as elephants are known to wander around - well, you are in a jungle, so of course! Also, familiarize yourself with the map of the location. When approaching from Kushalnagar on this road (after turning right from the main road) it will fork at one point - take the left fork to reach the resort. Right fork will take you nowhere, Signage is not very clear at this intersection. So that's it. One con.
Cell phone service was k (both with Airtel and BSNL). Internet service is patchy - sometimes works great, sometimes not. Ditch your smart phone and you will have no issues.
It was a palette of light and shadow, an arcadia of winding tracks amid luxuriant coffee bushes, lofty silver oaks swaddled in pepper vines, orange trees, and jackfruits and the occasional mango. With no man made intrusions, the wooded estate joyously proclaimed the glory of nature, under a cloudless sky. Crickets kept up an unending chirp while birds of different feathers tweeted and warbled and yodelled, proclaiming that they are the masters of this domain. Drenched in overnight showers, foliage glowed a brilliant green, while grass edging the twin tracks on the path glistened with fresh moisture and leafy branches swayed lazily in the cool morning air. The intermittent splattering of dung on the twisting trail could've come from horses, deer, or even elephants that occasionally roamed the estate.
I was in The Windflower Resorts & Spa in Coorg. Just a two-hour drive from Mysore along a smooth and winding highway, this secluded retreat ensconced within a sprawling 25-acre coffee plantation and perched over 5000 feet above sea level promises contemporary luxuries, gourmet food, wellness therapies and interesting adventure and leisure options.
Accommodation comes in three categories: studio, suite, and villas. The studios promise contemporary comforts without really indulging the guests and are not ideally placed to view sweeping vistas of the surrounding hills from their balconies. The suits are better located along a winding paved path bounded by landscaped gardens. The interiors are designed to indulge. Pull back the curtains on the wide French Windows in the living room and the distant hills beckon you, or step onto the deck just outside and take in the verdant misty slopes while relaxing on rattan chairs. While parquet flooring, plush seating, and warm lights make the living room cosy, the bedroom is large and spacious, with recliners and other pieces of furniture adding comfort and utility and large windows letting you savour the outdoors while you lie snug in the king-sized bed. The bathrooms are a delight too: trendy fittings, a Jacuzzi, glass enclosed shower niche and an open-air shower in a cosy little pebble-strewn yard. Toiletries are generous and classy too. But the villas go up another notch in terms of comforts and space. Bedroom and living are roomier with added accessories and so is the bath, but it's the wooden deck outside the living area that takes the cake. Surrounded by clipped hedges that provide ample privacy, a capacious Jacuzzi that can accommodate four adults with room to spare, sits on a patch of grass. Lounging chairs on the deck surrounding the Jacuzzi invite you to bask in comfort and may be catch up on your reading.
With such attention to creature comforts, food cannot be any less pretentious. The yet-to-be-named restaurant in this spanking new resort is wide and spacious and sits on a lower deck below the huge reception portal and overlooking the infinity swimming pool. Rattan chairs and glass topped tables, rows of lights under cane and cloth shades hanging from the high ceiling, a patch of green with a tree growing right through the ceiling, decorative light fixtures and an entire side open to the green outdoors make for an ideal setting to savour the gourmet fare. A-la-carte or buffet is based on occupancy but both offer Indian, Asian, continental and the local Kodava cuisine. Chef Vishwanath boasts years of experience, including long stints at Laitha Mahal Palace Hotel, Mysore and similar other hotels and resorts. While romantic dinners are arranged under a gazebo outdoors or by the poolside under the stars, the health conscious are indulged with wellness cuisine in the spa restaurant.
The Emerge Spa here is definitely a welcome feature, housed inside a separate block not far from the meandering line of suites and villas. The entrance foyer is a study in peace and elegance. The muted shades of the walls, the soft-toned flooring, art pieces sitting pretty on the walls, the minimalist but classy furniture, peaked roof resting on polished wooden rafters all contribute to the understated but tranquil ambience. Adding to the tranquillity, a peaceful visage of Buddha on a large granite bust sits inside a rectangular pool under a patch of sky. The lower floors house the massage rooms for traditional ayurvedic massages and other procedures, while the upper floors has rooms for Balinese massage and other wellness treatments. Services range from r a half-hour head and shoulder massage to 90-minute ayurvedic aroma therapy massage and more. The Balinese treatments are something special. Steam, sauna and chilled showers add to the experience. While a well-equipped Gym caters to the fitness freaks, Yoga and meditation classes every evening purvey the mind and body.
The swimming pool here boasts an interesting setting. Surrounded by lush greenery and lofty old trees, the contoured pool is capacious and inviting. While the pool deck is strewn with lounging chairs and sun shades, a large water body nearby provides an ideal waddling pool to a dozen or so geese that go about their business unmindful of the swimmers nearby. At the break of dawn or as dusk approaches, guests looking for peace and tranquility could be seen taking up vantage points around the waterfront for meditation.
Outdoor activities include plantation walk, early morning nature walk, horse rides within the estate, treks and river rafting at the nearby Dubare Elephant camp, and if the guest prefer, a dinner at a traditional Coorg home for groups of 8 to 10. A trip to Madikeri town just 15 km away and called the Scotland of India offers vistas of misty hills in winter, lush forests, acres of tea and coffee plantations and orange groves. En-route, the Abbi Falls is a popular tourist attraction especially post monsoon.
By Air: Nearest airports are at Bangalore (252 km) and Mangalore (125 km).
By Rail: Nearest railhead is at Mysore (120 km).
By Road: A network of smooth highways connect to Mangalore, Mysore and Bangalore.
Best time to visit: April to November. Their tariffs include all meals and taxes.
This is the third time we are visiting Coorg. We visited in the middle of July 2015, best time with incessant rains, drenching the Western Ghats, resplendent with Greenery, surrounded by Forests, Coffee/Tea Estates, Full flowing Cauvery River.
This is the first time we are staying in Serene Homes and the best ever so far in our case. From the time we started our journey from Bangalore, Navya had been on the call enquiring throughout, about our safe journey to Serene Homestay (Which is in interior South Coorg). Approach roads throughout has been quite good barring very small patches. Prakash greeted us personally as soon as we reached the HS, in the night and they had made all arrangements for our comfortable stay.
This place is in the midst of a Coffee Estate (advisable to use Google Navigation to get there). Approach drive through forest on one side and estates on the other is also enjoyable, frequented by Elephants. In fact we had a sighting of Elephant crossing the road on our approach to Serene Homes in the night.
Rooms were spacious enough to accommodate 7 of us, clean and comfortable. Very responsive servants. Variety, quality and taste of food was excellent. Water Rafting places is nearby (approx. 20-30 mins by drive). Nice Rafting experience with family and friends. Initially some of us had hesitation but, with trained professionals, the experience was awesome and memorable. Looking forward for more such outings.
Special thanks to Prakash, his friend Dilip and Water Rafting Nitin and team for their help when we had some issues with our vehicle.
Last but not the least, friendly dog BuddyÂ, loved especially by kids. Overall the entire stay was very nice. Prakash and Navya hospitality was excellent in the true tradition of famed Coorg hospitality. Highly recommended.
