Jaipur, 'The Pink City', was the vision and triumph of Maharaja Jai Singh II, warrior, astronomer and politician. Built in 1727, it has at its centre the City Palace from which radiate the oleander pink buildings, domes and minarets. To find one such glittering gem in the Rajasthan desert is a feast, yet to discover so many other palaces and forts of legendary splendour within 20 miles, is a veritable festival! Within these magnificent environs, where wilderness is juxtaposed with art, The Oberoi Rajvilas glitters as a jewel in its setting. Its architectural style, its cool, regal interiors and its 32 acres of formal gardens, echo the colours and majesty of Jaipur. Deluxe rooms, sunken marble baths, reconditioned tents with lavish bathrooms, romantic villas with private pools and dining pavilions offer an opportunity to live a lifestyle of opulence enjoyed by the Rajput princes. You will be greeted as a visiting maharaja and treated accordingly. Stayed two nights as part of our private oberoi tour of rajisthan. After Agra where we were extremely impressed by the excellency of the service we were curious to see if all ... Stayed for just one night on our way back to Deli. Sure if the score should be very good or average. Plumped for very good as we had a late check out and that was good for us. Overall it has the Oberoi standard but without the wow factor. The hotel needs some TLC in areas that look worn. The landscaping also looked like it needed some tidying and love. The restaurant (only one open I think) was very good and service superb. Check in and out great and room overall good. Think I may have been unlucky but some points that let it down. The ceiling fan in the room started to make a horrendous noise. Call desk who sent some people to sort it out and it was OK for 10 mins then problem came back so gave up and just turned it off. Sleep was a problem as there was a fire alarm low battery warning beeping away somewhere close all night. Went into the bar at lunch time for a drink and the air con was turned off so exited quickly? Turndown service not great, not even a look in the bathroom to freshen up. The WiFi is very poor in the rooms. I think the hotel had a very low occupancy so felt like it was in cost saving mode.

Wow! stayed here Sept. 2013. what a fantastic place!! The rooms, with powerful fan and AC, are very spacious and clean with large beds, comfortable mattresses and pillows and new and freshly laundered sheets. The en-suite bathrooms have hot water showers, large sinks and western or Indian style toilet, your choice. The rooms are well equipped with fast WiFi connection, multi channel TV, telephone, lockable strong safety cupboard for your valuables - bring your own padlock. Large bolt on door with spy hole and for extra feeling of safety there is CCTV in all public areas and 24 hour front desk managers. Very Safe for everyone, all ages including older women/men or women travelling alone. There is a fully operational elevator/lift to all floors and to the rooftop restaurant, so it is perfect for disabled or older people, and very safe for children. The restaurant has a fabulous view of the fort and city beyond. The food is excellent with a large variety of North and South Indian dishes, and good choice of western food also, with 4 cooks/chefs. All vegetables and fruit are bought fresh daily and washed in boiled water. Ice is available made with bottled water. All soft drinks and beer are served very cold. The service is fast and the staff always get the order right. They will make your food spicy or non-spicy, as you wish. The rooftop restaurant also has a wide variety of plants and flowers growing, which are very well looked after, giving a fresh garden feel, and there is a covered area to provide shade in the daytime. At night there is a cool gentle breeze and fresh clean air. The owners and staff are very friendly, attentive and speak good English. The hotel is set one street back from the main road, so is quiet and peaceful but only a short walking distance to local shops. And for 50 rupees you can take a rickshaw ride to the famous sights, shops and banks, or take a relaxing massage or a spa/swim nearby. The hotel is only 25 mins from the airport, (pre-paid taxi is 400 Rupees/£4/$6) and is 1 Km from bus and train station. I can totally recommend this hotel, great accommodation, food and service at a very low price. Everything can be arranged for you, nothing is too much trouble, I will always stay here when I visit Jaipur, my experience was made wonderfully pleasant, easy and memorable, my face was aching from smiling and laughing! 5***** accommodation for the budget traveller. Thank-you from my heart. THANK-YOU to the owners, cooks, waiters and staff of Hotel Kaylan. I look forward to coming back to stay here again next year :)
Room Tip = All rooms that I look at were perfect. Always ask for anything you want as the owners and staff want your stay to be pleasant and easy.
We had planned a trip to Jaipur by road from Lucknow (a distance of almost 600 kms via Agra, Bharatpur), and were looking at a hotel that would be centrally located (near to all major attractions), had parking space and most importantly was coming in the budget we had allocated for hotels during the trip. Did a lot of research on TripAdvisor, Holiday IQ and other similar sites, based on the feedbacks, zeroed on 5-6 properties in Jaipur (mostly in the Bani Park area). Then started looking at the best price they could offer. We contacted the hotels directly and also tried comparing the rates they offered with the rates on various sites like Makemytrip, FindMyStay etc. After a long exercise, we finalised Sajjan Niwas based on the rates offered by them to us directly (for 2 adults and one child) on CP (including breakfast). These rates were much lower than what was being offered on various hotel booking sites.
The experience of booking with them was nice and more or less hassle free. We deposited an advance of Rs. 2000. 00 (not the entire amount for our stay) and got the reservation confirmation promptly.
We reached Jaipur in the evening by around 5. 00 pm. Locating Sajjan Niwas was not much of a problem. Location wise the property is located in neat, clean and peaceful area which has residential apartments in the vicinity (just behind the collectorate). ATMs of many banks are in the walking distance along with a departmental store. All the tourist attraction points including the Amer Fort area are not very far off from the property.
The exterior of the hotel or the haveli is nicely done with the entrance decorated with peacock frescos. The check-in was hassle free. We were informed that the parking is done in front of the hotel (there is no inside parking - but that is not a problem as the road ends at Sajjan Niwas, they have cameras in the area where vehicles are parked, its properly lit and secure). There is another property right next to it - Umaid Bhawan which also has similar parking arrangements.
The property has a very nice heritage feel to it. Ample use of traditional Rajasthani frescos in the entire building enhances the heritage feel. Each floor has a lobby area with traditional wooden furniture, ideal to spend those lazy evenings. The hotel does not have a lift, which was not a problem, as this is a heritage property and we were not expecting modern features like this. The advantage of such arrangement is that you get the view of the lobby of each floor.
The reception is right at the entrance. Move inside, on your right hand side, the swimming pool is located. (We did use the pool during our stay)
We were given a room on ground floor (are. No. 109) when we checked in. The room was huge, it did not have a front view, but it made up for that with its size, traditional style furniture, a big wash room and yes a huge bed. In fact the bed was large enough to accommodate 4-5 people, almost the size of 2 king size double beds.
We were tired and want to go out for dinner. We were informed that they have a dining area on the roof top which is operational for dinner from 7. 00 pm onwards. We opted to have our dinner here and we regret the decision. The dining area at the roof top has open areas and partially closed areas. The decor is beautiful. It was Dusshera when we had checked in, the roof top dining area gave us a memorable experience on that day - we could enjoy the fireworks display that were happening in the city, enjoy the lovely cool wind and not to forget the food. The food was to our taste - not too spicy and not to forget the tawa chapattis. The food quality, taste and quantity along with the ambience, was the main reason why we never ate dinner outside during our entire stay. In fact on the last night of our stay there was a traditional Rajasthani puppet performance in the dining area- a unforgettable experience for my son, who not only interacted with the artists but also picked up some tips on a puppet performance.
The breakfast also was served in the dining area. The breakfast again had many options Poori Bhaji, Corn Flakes, Poha, Bread Toast, Omelette etc. One could have multiple refills of all the items.
Next day our room was changed to are. 302. This was the room which we occupied during our entire stay post the first night. We never asked for it but were informed that this was the room which was originally blocked for us, but the guest staying there checked out late, that's the reason we were given the earlier room. This room was on the 2nd floor, facing the pool/road. The room was really good, the walls including the rooms had traditional frescos. The furniture was traditional, the washroom had a very royal feel to it. The room had a small balcony too with sitting arrangements for two.
The entire team at Sajjan Niwas was very courteous and helpful. Their warmth and hospitality made our trip to Jaipur a memorable trip. My son has already announced that for the next trip we would again stay at the same property.
PS - Last year we had stayed in another heritage property in Guwahati and we found a big difference in the hospitality - on a scale of 1 to 10 Jaipur property would be 8 and Guwahati property would be 4.
Restaurant facility was not there but hotel was ok
Hotel was okay but they did not have their own restaurant that was a problem in this hotel. They arranged it from outside. Otherwise, everything was okay there. I visited there in October 2014 with my family. I did not face any problem to find out the hotel because it was booked by my relative. It was located in the centre of the city and near to bus stop and railway station. I travelled there by my own car. It was in the main market and the area was not congested. Surroundings of the hotel were neat and clean. Roads were spacious there. Behaviour wise, staff was good with us in that hotel. I did not like room delivery for food there. No check-in and check-out delay. Look of the hotel from inside and outside was good. Interiors and maintenance was also nice there. Room was very spacious, neat and clean. I stayed there for 2 days. Bed sheets, pillows, blankets, and all were neat and clean also. Complimentary toiletries were provided in the room. AC, TV, geyser, refrigerator, etc. were in working condition there. Road view was available from there. They used to clean the room daily. Bathroom and all were spacious, neat and clean. No issues with water. Improvement must be needed in supply of food. Food was nice. I had taken my food outside the hotel. Swimming pool was not there. I went for sightseeing by my own. People will not go there in the night time because of one way traffic. Money wise, it was affordable. It is a recommendable hotel to others. They should provide their own restaurant and replace their old facilities.
