What a beautiful and well-maintained property which is right below the Umaid Palace which is very near like 10-15 minutes drive from all major attractions of Jodhpur yet far from pollution and congestion of the old city. This is inside the royal property of Umaid heritage trust and it's a residential colony which gives a homely feel.
The rooms are well-maintained and royally done which was extremely neat and clean with proper ventilation etc and everything else that's required for a stay. We even had a kitchenette with our room that had an induction cooking plate and utensils, refrigerator etc. The linens, towels, toiletries etc were of good qualities.
The staff were very warm and friendly and helpful in every possible way. Mr. Ashish really took great care of us and suggested nice eating places and whatever we wanted to know.
The breakfast served was really scrumptious with lots of variety and specially made to our requests as whatever we wanted we just had to ask them the previous night and it was served next morning.
I would recommend everyone to stay in this property and also suggest to stay for at least a night in the old blue city too as it has some different culture and heritage feel.
"Good that we did not stay in the city of Jodhpur" was my wife's first comments when we were about to leave Chandelao Garh. Chandelao Garh is located 40 kms out of Jodhpur in the direction of Jaipur. The heritage hotel is located in Chandelao village and is a beauty to stay. It is a heritage property - a fort renovated into a hotel. The rooms are huge and some rooms also have a sitting area. The thick stone walls, ethnic furnitures, block printed curtains everything adds up to the ambience. The only item that is a misfit to the appearance are the air conditioners in the rooms. The property have sprawling lawns (it is lush green during the monsoon) and several open hang-out areas where you can have a refreshing cup of tea amidst the chirping of birds. A recently introduced swimming pool also adds up to the facilities.
The staff are very cordial and efficient. They make you feel at home. The owner of the hotel, Mr. Praduman Singh is an excellent host; always looking for that 'extra bit' he can do to make your trip memorable. The home cooked food is delicious and covers a lot of variety. Just out of the hotel is the Chandelao village. A walk around the village enriches you with the warm welcome of the villagers who are very simple at heart. In the morning, the sight of the village girls carrying water from the nearby wells, the men taking their cattle to the nearby fields, the little kids going to school; all are so refreshing to the soul.
Chandelao Garh also runs an Arts and Crafts centre as part of their Social Welfare. Here they work with the local women in making traditional Rajasthani Handicraft. They also run a computer centre to educate the little kids of the village.
Best Experience: The rooms are luxurious and comfortable. The staff are always on the lookout for your comfort. The vast open areas within the hotel premises allows you to free up your mind. The food is very tasty and delicious. Finally the feeling of staying inside a (renovated) fort is an experience in itself.
Worst Experience: The worst part was to leave Chandelao Garh.
After much research, my wife and I settled on Ranbanka Palace for our first visit to Jodhpur, and we're not disappointed. The hotel looks and feels as described in the photos and reviews.
The hotel is centrally located, and all places of interest (airport, clock tower, market, Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhavan Palace, etc.) are 10-15 minutes away from the hotel.
The staff at the reception desk was courteous and efficient. They also upgraded us to a higher room, which I'm guessing is a standard policy, but was a pleasant surprise nonetheless.
The rooms are clean and tastefully furnished. We were particularly impressed with the bathroom, which had a bathtub and premium fittings.
Food at the hotel, though a tad expensive, is good, as long as you stick to Mughlai/Indian. The Murgh Makhani we ordered the day we arrived was divine. Chinese cuisine is best avoided at the hotel. There are several other restaurants nearby where you can try Chinese, On the Rocks being one of them. The breakfast spread is satisfactory, but there's nothing that will set your tongues wagging.
The two highlights of the hotel are the beautiful lawn and the swimming pool.
The lawn has a stage, which hosts a live musical performance every night at the lawn, featuring local folk singers and a talented santoor player on alternate days. Both performances are enjoyable, and the musicians are more than happy to sing/play songs requested by the guests. However, this does get repetitive if you stay longer than 2 nights.
You'll also find a pair of adorable turtles roaming about on the lawn. But they are shy and can be a bit hard to find :)
The swimming pool is an absolute delight to be in and is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon. The pool also has a lovely gazebo overlooking it, where you can laze around all day. I suggest a cup of masala chai while you sit there with your favourite book.
A word of appreciation for the staff at the hotel: the front desk staff are polite and helpful. They even gladly agreed to our numerous requests to click photos :)
The waiters and housekeeping staff are also well trained and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. It was my wife's birthday and I had requested for a cake and flowers to be delivered to our room at the stroke of midnight. Both requests were fulfilled on time and with a smile.
All in all, Ranbanka Palace is a great place to stay at in Jodhpur. Prices are slightly on the higher side but are totally worth the warm hospitality and peaceful stay you will get in return.
1. Taxis and autorickshaws are very expensive in Jodhpur (A 10 minute auto ride will cost you anywhere between 100 and 300 rupees). Public transport is virtually non-existent. So bargain hard or you'll end up spending a fortune on transport.
2. The Mehrangarh Fort is the best thing about Jodhpur. Keep aside a full day to visit the place. Entry to the fort is free, but you need a ticket (100 rupees) to enter the museum, which is well worth it. You can hire an audio guide (more like a Walkman with earphones) which has prerecorded instructions to guide you through the fort. This is especially useful for foreigners and those who are interested in knowing the history of the fort. Entry to the fort closes at 6pm and guards make sure all visitors in the fort exit by 7pm. Auto Rickshaws are hard to find late in the evening, so it's a good idea to book one in advance.
3. If you're an adventure sports lover, you can't miss the flying fox ziplining experience at the fort. It's simply mind-blowing, and for 1,800 rupees a person, it's a complete steal. Don't miss this for anything in the world. Even if you're not so adventurous, give this a try and you won't regret it. Be sure to book online in advance though. There are limited slots available, which fill very fast especially on weekends. I strongly recommend a slot between 5 and 6 to enjoy the mesmerising view of the old city and the beautiful fort at sunset.
4. Keep aside an entire evening for shopping in the old market near the clock tower. I strongly recommend Ganesh Handicrafts for their excellent range of handicrafts and shawls, at reasonable prices. After you're done shopping, head to Indique in the old city for a rooftop dinner with an exquisite view of the fort. Your trip will be incomplete without this.
5. If you have time (and money) to spare, book a camel safari in Osian. The rustic beauty of the rural landscape, along with the thrill of watching black bucks, peacocks and numerous other animals in their natural habitat, is unforgettable. If you stay overnight, you can enjoy a traditional meal and folk dance performance by a campfire. You can also go dune bashing in the desert. But these activities cost a pretty penny. We didn't go for the Bishnoi village tour but I hear that too is quite enjoyable.
The Fitzwilton Hotel See the hotel Bridge Street . Waterford, Ireland JellymoyniNovember 9, 201510 “Perfect example of how a good hotel should be !! ” Most friendly and helpful receptionist ever, so lovely and great first impression of hotel. Couldn't have been more sweet, giving me directions to a function I was attending along with a helpful map, ensuring parking in car park and facilitating an early check in. If nothing else had gone right with hotel this lady ensured I would have left with a good impression. Fortunately everything about the hotel was exceptional, and I don't give praise lightly. It was clean, stylish, roomy with excellent service in both bar where we had lunch and restaurant where we had dinner. Food was beyond good and great value for money and service in both places attentive and efficient. Room itself was well equipped and comfortable. I could go on but suffice it to say I was very pleased with my stay, and although short and sweet this time, I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future. Nothing. We heard absolutely no street noise despite being facing onto a busy road. The bar was also quite nice.
It was very nice experience to stay in this hotel. Located just 2-3km from Jodhpur Junction and yet not very crowded environment. Adjoining street was pretty much silent and a auto rickshaw stand, provisions stores is near by.
Good experience: We arrived in early morning 5:30 am :) hotel staff had suggested to take a cab from station as it was early morning and jodhpur was pretty cold. We followed advised and took cab, as soon as we arrived to hotel, they immediately offered a beautiful room and moved our luggage. We were asked to complete formality afterwards. Thank you very much for this prompt service and early check in, we were more than delighted as we had baby with us and due to early checkin, they saved us from seating on station or lobby.
Room: Room was big, nice and clean, plenty of light. We had view of a swimming pool. Rooms located on ground floor lacks privacy a bit as they have elegant "glass doors", so one has to keep drapes close to avoid any mishap, as doors opens to common area :). Bathroom was huge and had all necessary toiletry supplies. Had necessary furniture to keep and store stuff (didn't had coat hangers though), color TV as with working cable.
Overall hotel: Nice and clean built, well maintained. They have little expansion work in progress but its not much bothering to guests. A well maintained huge lawn in front and side. Nice and clean swimming pool, well lit spacious lobby and a nice restaurant on 1st floor. Service was good from bell boy to room related requirements. staff was polite and helpful, they also guided us for tourists attractions. They also arrange cabs for site seeing.
Restaurant: Morning breakfast spread was good for both days and staff was very polite and quick in service. Paneer butter masala was amazingly delicious. All food items were on reasonable rates and excellent in taste and adequate quantity.
Our stay was excellent, we had nice sleep and full leisure in our room, no disturbance at all. Thanks for making our journey memorable.
