This was the last leg of our trip to Kerala culminating with our stay at the Taj Kumarakom. We are a family of 4 with 2 children aged 6 and 9 years.
Owing to a transport stir on the day we arrived, we actually reached the hotel very early that morning as we wanted to avoid any road blocks or protests enroute from Thekkady to Kumarakom.
Despite our early arrival, we received a warm welcome by the Taj staff who within 15 minutes obliged us with an early check in. This was really welcome as we arrived much earlier than the check in time and despite the hotel being full, the kind gesture made us feel very welcome.
This was the beginning of an awesome stay at the hotel. The rooms overlook the lagoon and takes your breath away. The design and decor of the room was appealling and the staff very friendly and courteous.
The entire property is well designed and one is not tempted to explore any further as the hotel takes care of all your needs.
The restaurant which has an A/c closed section as well as the open air area suits every palette and starting from the buffet breakfast which has a wide spread to the lunch and dinner - the entire menu is fascinating and delicious.
Every evening the hotel arranges some entertainment over dinner be it the traditional dance or singing and the ambience of the open air restaurant has to be experienced to believe - it is just something that takes you to another place.
The kids were thrilled as there was no room for any boredom. One could cyle around the property (cyles are provided gratis), do some fishing, or just take the paddle boat or the boat with oars if you are good at it and do your own thing. They have ducks / geese and rabbits in one section where you can feed animals if you enjoy doing this or just laze around.
The hotel also arranges cooking sessions with the chef, and workshops for the children during the day - eg. painting, colouring, pottery etc and certificates are provided which enhances the excitement for the children.
The swimming pool allows for those who enjoy swimming although I would mention that the pool could have been cleaner.
The Spa section / Beauty parlour is also available for relaxation if you so wish.
We were also taken to the backwaters by the hotel who arranges a house boat in the evening for their customers. Post our return from the backwaters, they had arranged for some sports / games for the children at which prizes were given out and also for some tea and hot snacks in the garden area.
Our entire stay at the hotel was more than pleasant and much above what we expected. My kids are so taken up with the Taj in Kumarakom that I am sure we will return to this place soon.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kumarakom and say you need not have to look further - its God\'s own paradise truly!
We decided to select this resort because we went there for a function and after seeing the facilities we took the decision. Right from the main entrance we could experience the warm hospitality of the resort staff and after completing the check-in formalities we were guided into our garden view room. The reception, lobby, rooms, restaurant - all are well-maintained and have excellent décor. The room had all facilities and the room service was excellent.
Instead of sitting in the room we just went out exploring the facilities of the resort. The beautiful garden, the area for kids activities etc are great but just sitting by the side of the lake and watching the houseboats, country boats and shikara boats carrying tourists is really mind-blowing.
The cuisines served at the restaurants are delicious and fresh and the courtesy extended by the staff explaining about the cuisines added more aroma to our dining. The two days we stayed there was really worth remembering and this property has the facilities and standard of a seven star category resort.
Karma Royal Resorts, Kumarakom, Kerala was the place where we stayed for 6nights. I was pretty happy with the warm welcome we have received and the hospitality that resorts staff have shown. I have planned my holidays to get exposed to Kerala beauty which I have been hearing from years about Munnar, Kovalam beach, houseboats and boat race etc.
Not all this I could get however we (my family of 4) were fortunate enough to get there during ONAM celebration and have glimpse of Onam Celebration in Kerala during our stay at Kumarakom Resorts.
During our stay at Resorts, Front Desk have provided support and quick action for whatever we needed on time. We had always smiling faces of staff members towards resorts guest while they were at work, which gave feeling that they are happy serving us and enjoying their work. Their happiness at work gives us confidence that they have fresh ideas & opinions followed by actions to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
I met with Milind there, who came from Mumbai who introduced us with all available Karma Royal properties for holidays, including International destinations like Bali in Indonesia and place at Thailand. I would really say he explained it very well and created huge interest among tourists for amazing holidays.
Our room was spacious, comfortable and have a good balcony with excellent lakeside view with sunlight. Interiors of the room was planned with a great sense of aesthetics. I and my wife liked it very much.
Dining place ambiance was good and staff there was able to take good care of the guests. Staff person were very humble, soft spoken and committed to their work with smile on their faces. Good gestures.
Construction wise this resorts was built on the pillars which stand in water. I had a little issue thinking what will happen if I drop my room key, mobile or laptop while walking on the ground which was built with pavements which has small gaps between them to get direct exposure to water while we walk on them. Otherwise it had nice appearance, ambiance and facilities. I enjoyed them all.
Advice to travelers: Munnar, Kovalam, and Thekkady is little far from Kumarakom as 4 hours drive by car so better stay nearby resorts when planning to visit these places.
Located on the backwaters, this resort is self sufficient in every way. Every photograph in this resort is postcard worthy!
The front office walls adorned with lovely paintings, with typical Kerala tiled roof and a large deepasthambam (lamp) in the centre. The stay just got interesting from this point onwards.
They have water channels throughout the resort, lined with tall evergreen palm trees and coconut trees. The resort provides free activities, one of which is canoeing. Expectedly, we jumped at this activity and started canoeing our way through the resort. It took some time to get the hang of it but it was totally worth it! The quiet and greenery are a pleasant combination.
More such activities kept us occupied through our stay, like, cycling and swimming.
The food was decent. We, in general, had a slightly tough time finding good options in vegetarian meals. But, this didn't interrupt the fun at this resort.
The bird sanctuary located a few minutes away is a wonderful place to visit. We saw nearly 15-20 different and unique species of birds.
Overall, this resort is a great place to spend a couple of days, just relaxing and catching up on your reading. Will definitely visit again!
Like they say the best for last our seven day holiday had just one day for stay at Zuri, Kumarakom. However, that one day and night stay was like icing on cake for our trip and a perfect ending. Pictures of that the resort is,we did not get tired clicking picture of every corner of the resort. The warm welcome by the friendly staff and swift check-in from the comfort of the reception sofa was a different experience. We were aware of the limited time that we had and our 8 and 3 years old boys were set in their mind with all the activities to do. We had ordered room-service for both lunch and dinner which was hot and delicious. The kids simply enjoyed the Bamboo raft and paddle boating despite of the humidity. High tea near the house boat at sunset was simply beautiful. Dip in the pool was a perfect ending to the hot day. Though we didn't use the gym and spa, it was worth a look. Kids enjoyed fishing and cycling in the property. The breakfast at the coffee shop was absolutely filling and the staff was very hospitable. Like all good things come to an end we had to leave for the airport. The General Manager of the property was a very nice gentleman. A spice box was perfect farewell gift from Kerala. We left the property with promise to ourselves to come back again someday.
