We booked directly through hotel website and reservation staff merlyn was very helpful in answering all the queries. We were offered a 30% discount as part of their flash sale. As we are celebrating our second wedding anniversary she had included a wedding cake. We have also requested for a baby cot and it was also accepted.
Check in Time is 2 pm and checkout is 12 noon. We reached resort by 2:15 pm. We reached Big Entrance gate which is about 200 m inside of main road. Security greeted us and guided to reception area. We were given traditional kerala style welcome and taken to reception desk. Our luggages were taken by staff and done valet parking. We were given tender coconut as welcome drink and also provided wet towels. Check in was easy and check in staff himself guided us to our room. Reception areas has no ac and feels humid if you stay there for longer time. Curio Shop, Travelers desk, Activity desk, tender cococnut stall ( rs 78 per cocunut and outside resort you will get it for rs 30) etc are nearby to reception area.
The resort is full of greenery with lots of trees and lawn around. Our room number was 104 and it was ready when we reached. Its a traditional kerala style. The lock used was traditional Kerala Lock which was very intresting. Room was spacious with a kind size bed, table and 2 chairs, sitting bench and wardrode. LCD TV, Electronic safe locker and mini bar equipped with 2 kingfisher beer, soda, soft drinks etc(all are chargeable )was also there. Snacks packets were spread in table and staff reminded it was also chargeable and charges were displayed there. 2 complimentary mineral water were provided. Electric kettle along with tea and coffee sachets were provided complimentary.
Then we were taken to toilet and our own private pool. Toilet are spacious and equipped with necessary toiletries and towels. Private pool and shower were open to sky and privacy was strictly maintained. Private pool was of descent size and was equipped with Jacuzzi. Our luggage also reached by this time. After taking some rest we went to 'THATTUKADA' which is a local tea shop in resorts lawn serving hot tea and coffee along with fresh snacks. Its open from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm and is complimentary for guests. Staff greeted us and provided 3 types of mouthwatering Kerala snacks along with coffee. Supervisor Abin was very friendly and spend some time with us talking about the resort. We then went for complementary sun set cruise which leaves from resorts jetty every evening at 5:30 pm. Cruise is in a motorized open boat equipped with chairs with capacity of accommodating around 100 guests. Musicians were also accompanying in boat and it was a wonderful experience guest enjoying the beauty of vembanad lake and witness sun set. We were back by 6:30 pm.
We have also booked dinner buffet Rs 1750 per person). We went to ETTUKETTU which is the 8 sided traditional mansion, the main multi cuisine restaurant taht serves breakfast from 7:30-10:30 am, lunch from 12:30 to 3:00 pm and dinner from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. The expensive dinner buffet consists of some kerala, indian and western items along with juices, cut fruits, salads, ice creams and desserts. Only limited non vegetarian items were there ( 1 mutton fry, couple of chicken items and a fish curry). They could have improve the menu adding a couple of variety non vegetarian items to the buffet, The staff were very attentive and need to mention about staff chippy, who were kind enough to take care of our infant during our buffet. Other staff including Abin and Jills were also very helpful. We have experienced shortage of staffs everywhere in restaurants, reception and housekeeping and all staff were very busy to cater to guests needs.
We had a good sleep and resort was awsome in morning with full of greenery around overlooking the beautiful calm vembanad lake. It will be mindblowing to walk around in early morning.
There are yoga and meditation at swimming pool side every morning from 7 am to 8 am. The gorgeous swimming pool which is set at banks of lake is open from 7 am to 9 pm. Fully equipped techno gym is also open from 7 am. Indoor games, pottery and mat weaving, cycling, fishing, village walk etc are the addittional activities available inhouse. There is no free wifi and its heavily priced. Business centre charges are also very high. An ISD call can cost you around rs100 per minute. Well equipped ayurvedic centre AYURMANA with doctors also open from 8 am to 8 pm and its recommended to book in advance
We went to breakfast buffet by 9 am and it was good. Lot of varietieswere there including many kerala dishes. Many Juices, cut fruits, snacks etc were available.
We ask for checkout at 12 noon and proceed to reservation desk. We have waited for around 30 min to get our luggage.
Some of the suggestions/complaints are
1. There are shortage of staff in reservation, restaurants, housekeeping etc
2. Buffet items for Dinner to be improved particularly non vegetarian items
3. Temp control in room was not possible as there were no ac provided in room
4. It will be a good idea if staff removes foot wear while entering into villa when guests are occupied.
5. We asked for a baby cot for infant during reservation itself. We again reminded during check in time 2 pm and later again by 5 pm. But it was brought only by 8 pm
6. Could have done some towel arts in bedrooms
7. Floor mat in bed room found slippery with existing tiles. We fall down twice
8. WIFI should be made complementary
9. Lots of canals are running inside resort. Could have introduced couple of complimentary pedal boats

Each room is a heritage home that is actually made from the homes that were planted here from in and around. The efforts taken to add to the heritage and the Beauty of the resort are evidently visible, almost every room has an entry to the pool which is spread across the resort. The millennium pool actually gives one a feel of swimming in backwaters that are separated from pool and only by a small boundary of the pool wall. Everything right from the Lock and key to the doors to the beds remind you of the bygone era. Needless to mention the amenities and services offered in the room are immaculate. The open bathroom is definitely a novelty to me. Bathing in an area so huge and open can put any one to shy for a moment, but is adventure of a kind making it fun.
Food right from breakfast to dinner is great and a wide assortment. The menu caters to the food pallet of the Indian as well as the international guests. From, Indian to continental to oriental there as something for everyone to relish.
A numerous indoor activities are on the house offered to guests. One can go fishing in backwaters ,cycle, go on village walks or even take pottery lessons. The Sunset cruise though is a hit wherein a house boat takes you for a backwaters tour to witness the splendid sunset.
A world class Kerala Ayurveda and massage canter in the resort offers super relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Pamper yourself with massages or beauty treatments as per the need. The canter also retails a variety of herbal medical and beauty range. Also located within the resort is a curio shop for shopaholics with a few very unique objects DE art.
A traditional Kerala art form show every evening takes you through a cultural Kerala tour. A kathakali, Mohinee attam or a classical instrumental performance sure will mesmerize you while you enjoy your dinner.
I strongly recommend Kumarkom Lake Resort and is a must visit destination on every travellers list. Beauty, heritage, luxury, tranquillity and world class service at its best!

Royal Grove was a perfect choice for a family accommodation - a small yet very beautiful property that has all the facilities required to make your holiday enjoyable and a memorable one. This resort is located is a serene setup on the beds of the Vembanad lake, longest lake in India.
The place has all the essential facilities like a neat room with highest standards, excellent lake from every room balcony, courteous staff, free Wi-Fi, restaurant serving high quality hygienic food, gym for fitness freaks, nice well maintained swimming pool with clean water, in-house activities organized every evening for the families to network/enjoy and prompt room service to top it all. This property has only 24 accommodation units without the kitchen facility. The rooms are very neat, clean and well-maintained. The design and the layout of the pathways is the most attractive part the lake water and small foot bridges connecting the reception, rooms and the recreation area make this place adorable. The designers and the architects need a special mention for this.
The trip of Kumarakom or Alleppey is incomplete without a stay on house boat. They offer house boat stay, though the charges on the higher side. However, as this private house boat is exclusively reserved for the guests staying at Royal Grove, the higher charges may be justified. Then, there is the Spa service available too, for those who want to rejuvenate themselves.
The food serving time at the restaurant is on the higher side they take a minimum of 20-25 minutes to serve the food. The number of guests is limited as this property has only 24 rooms and this is one of the main reasons why buffet meals are not available only a la carte services. The quality, taste and the hygiene of the food served is of high standard no complains. The food is reasonably priced.
Do plan a ride on the government ferry boat from Kumarakom to Muhamma the Kumarakom boat jetty is about 1. 5 km from the resort. You can slowly walk/take an auto rickshaw (tuk-tuk). The one way boat ride is about 40 min and costs only INR 10 per person.Reaching Royal grove is easy from Kumarakom, Kottayam or Alleppey. It is about 60km from Cochin/Ernakulam, 14 Km from Kottayam and about 35 km from Alleppey.

Right from beginning on entering the resort you get the feel of traditional Kerala and grandness of the lobby. You just feel the luxury but as you get older by the time spent their you get the feel that it is artificial. You can't stand for your decisions have take to choose this resort for pure luxury as its very normal in a five star resort with lessor value. The value they have ask for this is not worth it. Nothing to do once your inside the resort apart from swimming pool. No activity for children and in that case you have to be with them and miss relaxation time there. In evening just a traditional show while having dinner.
No doubt for the surrounding. It's the picture perfect you love the lush green field and traditional decoration. The rooms are big and spacious. We have choose for meandering pool villa with have entry in the pool right from ur room. Its nice feel to have nothing to worry about whenever you feel to go inside you can. Both of my kids 5 and 3 year old love to seat out in open veranda and play in water with different things and can taken care from the bed inside from room by us. the open bath feel is one of its kind as now a days its hard to feel in urban locality.
About the food A'la carte is too much expensive. So choose the package with all includes to try all the different variety they offer. I love the evening tea session with hot pakodas in rainy days when we visit. The boat ride to vermanda lake is okay.
In a conclusion I can say that visit this resort just for relaxation.

Can't blame the hotel, but did expect some consideration for this problem. However, it was not to be, was informed that this is peak time, so they would like to maximise on making money. (Similar to auto drivers trying to make a fast buck). Somehow got a lake facing villa with private pool. After paying the hotel directly by my Amex card found that there was a scheme for Amex of paying for 2 nights and getting the third free. The hotel sales head did not want to inform me this! Scheme is for online booking only and not if you deal with the hotel directly! Beats me !!!
The villa is a small room, not a suite as one would imagine. The pool is a large jacuzzi, nothing more. Very poorly thought about. Open bathroom, cannot stay with kids as the shower area is visible from the room! Don't think of taking a shower after an evening swim, the shower area is infested with lizards. Also, cannot take a shower if it is raining, which is quite common. They provided a shabby shower curtain hanging on a string.
Paid Rs 5000 per night for an extra bed and breakfast! Get decent rooms at that price! Absolute rip off.
On a positive note, the staff is quite courteous and efficient.
Had stayed at the Zuri earlier, much better place. Money apart, very disappointed with the "villa" size, don't see any value. Some pavilion rooms are much bigger and better. Left with a feeling of been taken for a ride.
