Goldfinch is a excellent hotel to stay while in Mangalore. You as s traveller we will have everything you are looking for in s hotel. Be it a family trip or business this hotel has everything that you look for in a hotel. There are 2 good hotels in Mangalore. One is Goldfinch and the other is ocean pearl. But when it comes to having good restaurants within the premises Goldfinch have better restaurants. They have good seafood restaurant plus for meat lovers they have kabab factory and mojo for club or lounge. They don't have veg restaurant but have woodlands in front of the hotel. Rooms are clean and tidy. Room service are prompt. Meena at front office is very helpful. Ask for her if you have any issues. Plus the lady who is in charge of the housekeeping is also good. Overall Goldfinch is the hotel to stay while in Mangalore.
We three family members (a couple and me) booked a villa in the resort for a night on 15th Feb 2016 and arrived at the resort a little after lunch time and checked in. Though we had already told that we did not require lunch as we failed to see any good vegetarian hotels on our way inside the Mangalore city, we were so hungry and when we sought for some available dishes they could not help us and told just then their kitchen was closed and being located at the South western corner of the city and in a remote area, we were not able to go in search of any other restaurant. We hence requested the resort officials to provide us something vegetarian to eat. They said they could provide us some bread butter jam slices after some time and some pakodas which they could give us after about more than one and half hour.
Further, though the villa house was appearing very nice, many of the plug points were observed not working for either charging our exhausted mobiles or fixing the good knight mosquito repellents. No doubt, they gave us the front villa with a direct sea view, we found a few drawbacks like many small ants moving on the kitchen window walls and with no sachets of coffee powder, sugar or sugar free, tea powder kept though the coffee maker was there. They provided perhaps after we demanded. The vegetarian dinner provided in the night was so bad with thick and hard chapatis and a bowl of so called 'rasam'(which was neither a sambar or rasam) with perhaps some good curds and plain rice.
Again the next day morning, another shock was that water supply was not there to use for any purpose and literally we had to run to the reception as they were not responding to our mobile calls and after knocking their doors, Mr. Nithin who was the Front office supervisor came running and arranged the needful for supply of water. He also was explaining that all the staff including himself were very much new and were yet to get acquainted with the resort functioning and maintenance. We in fact, checked out of the resort even skipping the free breakfast fearing for its taste or kind based on our previous night dinner experience. Though Mr. Nitin was trying to attend to our needs he was found helpless with the given functional infrastructure. Based on his earlier email communications, we expected a very good hospitality but was not happening in practice. The plus points were: the beautiful beach shore at their opposite premise crossing a small road and their supply of coffee or snacks to the shore. The old man who was supplying us food or coffee, tea was so cordial, respectful and deserves kudos.
The other main negative aspect is the absence of intercom facility to call from the villas and we had to call their reception phone no only for any requirement from our mobiles which was very odd after paying an higher tariff and Wi-Fi was missing not only in rooms but also in the reception area where it was told it is available.
Overall, the experience was bad for a so called resort and highly reported reviews. May be the reason of our bad experience might be due to the reported inexperienced new staff.
Perhaps the villas are very good and will be fine if experienced with many family members in a group and with an improved amenities and staff service.
I found Veenu International Hotel via Oyo Rooms and was experimenting with the app to see if it gives me a good options to stay at Mangalore. Surprisingly, Veenu International is a really decent place to stay and they have parking facilities too. Being on the main road soon after entering the city solved any woes of having to search for the place. People in Mangalore are generally courteous I think. The service boys were well-behaved and well-dressed too. We stayed in two rooms and both the rooms were booked via Oyo. My main concern at any place of stay is the bathroom. I like it, well-maintained, clean and I must say the hotel management has paid good attention in keeping their bathrooms clean, well-lit and well-provided. The rooms we got were spacious and bed linen were very clean as well.
The advantage of staying at this hotel is that they have a nice little restaurant called Garlick on the ground floor which is surprisingly frequented by locals too. The food is good and we had no complaints as to the quality or the quantity or the taste. We requested the food to be spicier than usual and our request was obliged by the chef who spiced up our dishes just as we wanted it. Even the pricing is decent on the pocket.
Overall, it was a very pleasant stay for us and we had no problems whatever from hotel or the staff or with the rooms itself. I'd recommend this place to others for sure. But I'd also suggest to book the rooms using Oyo or Stayzilla which give you really good discounted prices. The hotel's pricing is at least 500 bucks more if you book your rooms directly.
I have been a regular guest at Hotel Saffron because of its close proximity to main city with ready connectivity options via rail and road.
The Hotel assumes a Grandeur look from the outside but delivers OK on ambiance yet awful on the fare of cuisine.
A Special word of praise for the attitude of service staff right from the receptionist to the laundry boy who display exemplary courtesy with thoughtful empathy as well, and my stay became better thanks to their efforts.
The Cook was terrible and that is almost a compliment by concession. From the Soup, through the starters till the main course was so unpalatable that Fruit Salad with ice cream in dessert had to play a lone hand in saving grace.
The City is buzzing if one is not that keen on being a party animal. People are helpful and even go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Like the elderly gentleman who insisted on offering us a lift on his Car when I enquired him on travel options with no rickshaw or cab in sight outside City Centre Mall at 11:30 pm post a movie night out with my friend during a visit in Mangalore.
I have booked the room through MMT and got a confirmation receipt also through email. I was travelling with my three kids (twin babies 1 year old and elder daughter 7 years), my old aged parents and my wife from Udupi to Bangalore in my car. As the accommodation was confirmed, I drived to the hotel. However the front office person told that the booking is already cancelled. I was totally taken aback by the said reply. I showed him the confirmation email I received from Makemytrip. Then he told that MMT is already informed that the booking is cancelled. After much struggle, he was ready to allot me one single room with four beds. When I called MMT executive she told me to take it. I also had no other option but to take it as I knew very well that getting a room at Mangalore at late hours and with my family it will be difficult. Then after occupying the room, at around 3 am, the fan stopped functioning. It was such a dreadful night that I could not sleep, the babies woke up and next day when I drove from Mangalore to Bangalore it was really tough.
I still don't know it's whose fault, MMT or Hotel people?
Most funny thing is that MMT told that I need not pay anything extra from my pocket as they will arrange to pay any extra amount demanded by the Hotel people for giving a single room where in fact I have paid for two double rooms. I think it was MMT who has to pay me the difference.
Any way thanks to MMT and Megha residency for a terrible and dreadful experience.
