We visited Mangalore with Family and I thought that this place would be a decent please to stay but slowly it turns out to be a bad to worst place. We booked 2 rooms for 3 days and they allotted us one decent size room and another extra small room and upon asking they said Sir, this is standard size room. The room was too small for 2 persons. The bedsheets, pillow covers were not very clean with some spots (Photo attached) I faced multiple issues as listed below: 1. Blankets with stains. 2. Bedsheets with Stains. 3. Dampness at walls and distemper coating coming out it. 4. Big white spots on wall along with AC. 5. Dirty Pillows. 6. Washbasin handle was broken. 7. Hot water not provided in evening. 8. Only one water bottle was given (1 even if there are two occupants. 9. This should be refilled every day but room service guy denied refilling and I got it only after escalating with hotel owner. 10. When the room was handed over to us, it should have all the amenities but they were missing. When we walked into the room, We realised it has missing Towels, water bottle, kettle for heating etc. It is very annoying to call those guys for each and everything and wait for them to come one by one and they take their own time to give. All these things should already be present at the hotel when keys were given to us. 11. The Newspapers is up to their mood, if they feel like it then they will give you otherwise forget about it. 12. Tea maker indicator was not working. One of the electric point was not working. 13. Food - Bad - The only thing they have in breakfast is idli sambar, bread toast, eggs, 1 type of juice. Taste of breakfast was not at all good. Of all the points above, I was seriously disappointed with food they serve. That literally spoiled my mood on the first day itself. The Plates in which they serve food were not clean, water was all over them. I have uploaded multiple pictures of almost all the points I have stated above. Overall if you need a cheap room to sleep then go ahead and book otherwise if you are looking for a decent stay in clean rooms then don't opt for this hotel.
We three family members (a couple and me) booked a villa in the resort for a night on 15th Feb 2016 and arrived at the resort a little after lunch time and checked in. Though we had already told that we did not require lunch as we failed to see any good vegetarian hotels on our way inside the Mangalore city, we were so hungry and when we sought for some available dishes they could not help us and told just then their kitchen was closed and being located at the South western corner of the city and in a remote area, we were not able to go in search of any other restaurant. We hence requested the resort officials to provide us something vegetarian to eat. They said they could provide us some bread butter jam slices after some time and some pakodas which they could give us after about more than one and half hour.
Further, though the villa house was appearing very nice, many of the plug points were observed not working for either charging our exhausted mobiles or fixing the good knight mosquito repellents. No doubt, they gave us the front villa with a direct sea view, we found a few drawbacks like many small ants moving on the kitchen window walls and with no sachets of coffee powder, sugar or sugar free, tea powder kept though the coffee maker was there. They provided perhaps after we demanded. The vegetarian dinner provided in the night was so bad with thick and hard chapatis and a bowl of so called 'rasam'(which was neither a sambar or rasam) with perhaps some good curds and plain rice.
Again the next day morning, another shock was that water supply was not there to use for any purpose and literally we had to run to the reception as they were not responding to our mobile calls and after knocking their doors, Mr. Nithin who was the Front office supervisor came running and arranged the needful for supply of water. He also was explaining that all the staff including himself were very much new and were yet to get acquainted with the resort functioning and maintenance. We in fact, checked out of the resort even skipping the free breakfast fearing for its taste or kind based on our previous night dinner experience. Though Mr. Nitin was trying to attend to our needs he was found helpless with the given functional infrastructure. Based on his earlier email communications, we expected a very good hospitality but was not happening in practice. The plus points were: the beautiful beach shore at their opposite premise crossing a small road and their supply of coffee or snacks to the shore. The old man who was supplying us food or coffee, tea was so cordial, respectful and deserves kudos.
The other main negative aspect is the absence of intercom facility to call from the villas and we had to call their reception phone no only for any requirement from our mobiles which was very odd after paying an higher tariff and Wi-Fi was missing not only in rooms but also in the reception area where it was told it is available.
Overall, the experience was bad for a so called resort and highly reported reviews. May be the reason of our bad experience might be due to the reported inexperienced new staff.
Perhaps the villas are very good and will be fine if experienced with many family members in a group and with an improved amenities and staff service.
I found Veenu International Hotel via Oyo Rooms and was experimenting with the app to see if it gives me a good options to stay at Mangalore. Surprisingly, Veenu International is a really decent place to stay and they have parking facilities too. Being on the main road soon after entering the city solved any woes of having to search for the place. People in Mangalore are generally courteous I think. The service boys were well-behaved and well-dressed too. We stayed in two rooms and both the rooms were booked via Oyo. My main concern at any place of stay is the bathroom. I like it, well-maintained, clean and I must say the hotel management has paid good attention in keeping their bathrooms clean, well-lit and well-provided. The rooms we got were spacious and bed linen were very clean as well.
The advantage of staying at this hotel is that they have a nice little restaurant called Garlick on the ground floor which is surprisingly frequented by locals too. The food is good and we had no complaints as to the quality or the quantity or the taste. We requested the food to be spicier than usual and our request was obliged by the chef who spiced up our dishes just as we wanted it. Even the pricing is decent on the pocket.
Overall, it was a very pleasant stay for us and we had no problems whatever from hotel or the staff or with the rooms itself. I'd recommend this place to others for sure. But I'd also suggest to book the rooms using Oyo or Stayzilla which give you really good discounted prices. The hotel's pricing is at least 500 bucks more if you book your rooms directly.
This review can't explain my feelings about the Gateway Hotel in Mangalore, because it's unexplainable and inexpressible. I have booked a standard non smoking room, the room was well kept and clean. We feel that we are at our own home. The toilets were very clean and had provided with various toiletries even a hair dryer. The room was spacious with an office desk and a couch and it also had the basic amenities like extra pillows, extra blankets, coffee makers and some eatables. The flooring were made of wood. The room offered a view of both city and the Mangalore old port.
There was no disturbances from the outside or inside premises of the hotel, it was really quiet and will definitely get a peaceful stay. The hotel provides complimentary breakfast for four people, complimentary wi-fi for four devices and complimentary usage of swimming pool.
The hotel staff were very courteous, helpful and well behaved. Some of the staff named jose thomas, ramesh were at the reception they were very helpful and staff named amresh, mukesh etc at restaurant were also good. Overall all the staff were very much helpful and very courteous. No doubt at all.
The restaurant cardamom was an awesome place for food, it's arranged in a good way with both table - chair combinations and couch - table combinations. The restaurant provides all kinds of drinks, red vines like sule vines. We had vegetable biriyani, murg biriyani, chilli paneer, murg angara tikka, cold coffee and gulab jamun. The food was really tasty, freshly prepared, mouth watering and off course its delicious and awesome. In the morning the buffet breakfast was provided at the cafe near the pool. It offers a good pool view and is well spacious. The hotel offered a wide variety of south indian, north indian and continental food for the buffet breakfast.
For the morning bed coffee they provide some beautifully made chocolate and masala cookies. The hotel offers a business centre with a high speed internet connectivity, a book shop and off course a large souvenir shop.
Overall the best awesome good hotel to stay at Mangalore away from city but close to city. I will strongly recommend the travelers the Gateway Hotel because it is a home sweet home which offers a very peaceful stay.
I will also tell the travelers that this hotel offers the very best, awesome and mindblowing stay. Comfort and off course the mouth watering and delicious food in Mangalore. I will definitely stay at the Gateway Hotel in the future.
This hotel is very near to bus stand and pick up facility is available from bus stand. This hotel has a super outlook with a black tinted glass which gives super look. This hotel is located in a centre of city of Mangalore. Front office staff were very good and attractive. Designed with a interior wood decoration. Beds are good and soft pillows are too good and soft. Room cleaning was too good and tidy, bath rooms were also too good and fresh odoured. I advice travellers to stay here.
A restaurant is seen in second floor of hotel, here food was very good and tastier, both North Indian and South Indian dishes are too good. A function hall is seen in second floor which is completely A/C surrounded. We should bring shampoos of our own and management will not provide any thing to us. Parking facility is seen in underground of the hotel.
