- A rustic little hamlet set...

Basic and functional, the resort has 13 rooms of various types - a/c, deluxe rooms, double rooms - which are all very basic and functional. Although we stayed in an a/c room, in retrospect, we should have opted for a deluxe room which faces the sea and offers an amazing view of the beach. But our room was clean and I was particularly delighed to discover a sparkling clean bathroom and toilet. As much as I love travelling, my greatest nightmares on the road are strange, dirty bathrooms. :-)
There were no restaurants in the resort and one could eat whereever one fancied. There was a rough dining area of sorts close to the beach which had stone benches in a semi circular form. But the food was delicious especially the sea food. The dals and the Indian breads were also nice but not a patch on the sea food preparations. There are no words to describe the open air dinners at Turtle Bay...the candles in their crude bisleri bottle holders, the roar of the sea crashing on the shore, the gentle breeze in your hair, the delicious masala prawns washed down with chilled beer....it is an amazing experience.....
The sea is just a few second walk from the resort and it more than makes up for the any dissapointments the resort offers by way of luxuries. We spent hours in the sea, wading and then sunning ourselves on the barnacle covered rocks. One has the option of indulging in a number of water activities like snorkelling and boat rides, but we were content to wallow in the azure waters and bask in the sun. We were told that the resort owes its name to the ridley turtles which come ashore during a particular season. That would be some sight. We probably would come some time to have a dekho at it...
Best Experience: The sea was amazing....the beach at the resort was almost private and it was so incredibly beautiful. There was a large rock on to which I would clamber to take in the gorgeous sunsets...There are no words to describe the open air dinners at Turtle Bay...the candles in their crude bisleri bottle holders, the roar of the sea crashing on the shore, the gentle breeze in your hair, the delicious sea food which was washed down with chilled beer....it is an amazing experience.....
Plus they served us the most amazing pancakes....absolutely delicous.....
Worst Experience: no really bad experiences although there are some opportunities for improvement....for instance, toilet paper and hand faucets in the bathrooms, better sockets for basic electrical equipment and telephones in rooms with connections to the reception and room service.....

Firstly, its not in Updupi, its about 55km from Udupi, and around 8 Km from a place called Kundapura.
Now, lets start with road to reach this place. I will talk about road from Udupi to resort only, road is fairly good, its a NH and process of widening it is also going on, so somewhere you will get 4 lanes and somewhere you will get 2 lanes, but they will not trouble you. The only thing which might be disappointing will be last 0. 5km which is a village road, a narrow one. Trust me 0. 5km won't make much difference.
How resort looks?
Its a restricted place, so concrete structures are not allowed. Almost entirely the resort is built with red stone kind of structure which you will see in most of pictures. I felt its not that well maintained, or they kept it like that to give you feel of village but long grass here and there pretty bad and garden should have been maintained much better. I felt for long time they had not even looked at garden.
Rooms, generally when you talk about resort these days you expect outside it will be hut but inside the bed and bathroom will be luxurious. The bed they provided was too basic, these day if you book a room for 1000 Rs you will get that bed. What you get in room, an old wooden wardrobe. You will get a very basic bathroom with just one Rs. 5 medimix soap. To me they said A/C isn't working so I had to manage with just a fan.
Now, having said all this, what you will like. Its a pretty isolated place, so calm and serene. The moment you enter the resort you will hear the sound of waves.
The best part is, you have beach right in front of you always. Its like a private beach, the count of people playing in the beach will be 10 at max any point of time in the day and all of them would be from your resort only. Since, less number of people, so its very clean, you can have fun with your family/friends all the time.
Food, the complementary breakfast was very good, you have choices, bread toast, idly, vada, sambar, puri-sabzi, and corn flakes, along with tea/coffee. One good thing, they keep a container of tea/coffee at reception as early as 7. 15 AM, so if you are lover of morning tea like me, you can enjoy the morning tea with a difference by having it while sitting at beach. They have a small menu, and for veggies that gets even smaller. But whatever I ordered out of that I liked it. So, I appreciate the food quality and taste. Avoid ice cream but eat gulab jamun. I ordered lime soda and it was fantastic.
Having said all this, they always discourage room service. Also, I would recommend having food in dinning area which is a open wooden shed and hardly 100mts from beach, so again can hear sound of beach.
Forgot to mention they don't have a inter-com. So, anytime you need something you have to look around for a staff member. Amenities, nothing and absolutely nothing. They have boating etc but all paid. Bathroom and room, though are very basic but clean.I strongly believe that they should reduce the price.I stayed with my wife, so if the private beach feeling wasn't there I would have rated it 1 star in all the categories except food.Recommendation, if as a group you are going, for a mixed gender group, very much fun but for only guys not so much.
- 'Liesure Holiday Beach Resort' -...

I travelled to Kundapur from Bangalore by Sleeper bus from there it is 12 Kms ( Auto Rs 120/-) to the resort . Turtle Bay provide you all that is mentioned on the web site but you have to inform them in advance. I was more on a liesure visit so time was spent mostly lazing around -of course any one going there must do the Boat Cruise to the Light house Island which the charge is 1000/- (which if there are 8 persons it can be shared) so opted for the backwater cruise which can be negotiated directly with the boatman, he is flexible , if you go one Km away to the Trasi Junction - Marwanthe Beach you can find him there . The backwater ride is done in the Souparnika River Okay nothing to write about.
Staying in a heavenly surroundings make you want to live longer so to ask God for this I made a trip to the Kollur Mookambika temple 35 Kms away. Trust me it is not difficult be adventurous take the Auto ( Rs 375/-) and do go there in the afternoons after 3.30 as there is no crowd- the whole journey and darshan was done in two hours.Makes you feel good and also makes the elders in the house happy that when you mention that you went on not just a holiday but a pilgrimage.
Do get up in the mornings as the view and sea is best at that time- the beach is quite safe and the rocks a little away break the waves giving it a calmers effect. Do visit this place if possible during the full moon as you have a good lasting memory of both the setting sun and a setting moon.
Best Experience: Lazing in the hammocks which are tied to the trees the swaying trees moves the hammock( makes you feel guilty for you childich indulgence.) Candle light dinner in the open air by the Seaside with the murmur of the waves in the background.
Worst Experience: The crow picking up the prawn left by me when I left the table for a short period .
Recommend that if you are not going to be at the dining table at all times then you the netted areas which offers an equally good view for breakfast and lunch.

Ambience – Set against red soil, the small, tiled rustic duplex earthy red cottages are beautifully juxtaposed with the intermittent green palm-groves. The outdoor dining and seating areas have stone benches and natural tree trunk tables. The hammocks let you laze away to the background symphony of the sea and wind. The resort arranges scuba diving and snorkeling for adventure-lovers. Trips to back waters and Coral island can also be booked on an advance notice of one week. For the more sedate visitors, there is also a yoga and meditation room and special massages that relax.
The interior colour scheme of the cottages also merges with the rustic surrounding of the resort. There is no hot water facility in the toilet/wash room but you can get a hot water bucket on request. The verandah outside the room can be a good sitting area. It also checks the beach sand from coming directly into the cottage.
Food – We were served our dinner under the cool canopy of starlit sky. While the fish preparation was very good, the alu parathas just passed the grade. No drinks are served or allowed in the resort. Weary and tired after a day-long drive we retired to our cottage. Comfortable beds, clean linen, and a soothing lullaby of the waves soon transported us to the dream world.
The view - The call of the sea attracted us to the beach early morning the next day. Many fishermen in their fishing boats were getting ready to go to the sea. There are a few rocks in the sea from where one can have good photographs. From the beach as I looked towards the resort side I saw a mesmerizing sunrise. The Sun as it emerged from behind palms was the biggest I have ever seen. On return, we enjoyed perfectly brewed coffee.
The surprise part of our stay followed next. The owner of the resort Mrs. Shanti took us around the hotel to see one day old baby turtles. The whole area was protected by fishing net. There was a separate three-fold net enclosure that housed the turtle eggs. From here the newborns are immediately taken to their larger enclosure where they are kept and looked after till they are old enough to be returned to the sea.
Best Experience: The best experience - We seemed to be the chosen lucky ones, to be there at the resort when the turtle eggs had just started to hatch the previous day and we saw some new born baby turtles. This surely justifies the name of the resort. The owners did take a personal interest in making our stay interesting.
Worst Experience: The worst experience –There was no bad experience but the common problem of stray dogs and cats irritated us here also. In spite of the net protection one cat managed to climb on to our dinner table and tumbled our water glass.
- Overall a very good resort,...

Best Experience: Best part is even in the night till about 11pm, you can go around the ocean, if tides are not intense, lights are enough, you will not be scared or left out. The helpdesk sits right in middle of cottage, facing sea and instructs you very well on when not to be near the sea.
Worst Experience: Sept may not be a good choice for this resort, but we had to go there and got a good deal aroun 1400/night. Helpdesk mentioned it will be around 3000/night if booked after Oct. Could not enjoy any activities like snorkeling, seadiving which the helpdesk mentioned would exist during the season and this is when sea calms down completely and looks like swimming pool (as mentioned by frontoffice)
