- Summer getaway to Masinagudi
- by Mr.. pradeep kumar for The Nest Inn
- Posted May 12, 2016
We got to the town around mid day driving through a small stretch of bad roads due to ongoing road widening work. The last section of the drive is through Bandipur reserve which was uneventful. Once we got to Masinagudi, we expected the weather to be hot but were surprised that it was even hotter than Bangalore.
The restaurant is at the center of what seemed like a really small town. Although I cant say this for sure since we did not get a chance to explore. The restaurant is quite cosy, well maintained and affordable. We chose it mainly because it has a kids play area and were not disappointed as the couple of slides and swings that were installed kept the kids occupied during the afternoons when it is quite hot and we didn't want to go outdoors. The lawn is quite well maintained.
The really nice part about staying in this restaurant is the folks who run it. The manager Santosh and his service staff are very affable and take care of all your needs with a smile. Their behavior and attitude made our stay all the more pleasant.
The rooms are quite fictional. The ones on the first floor have sitouts with a view of the mountains but a powerline which runs across and close to the sitout area spoils the view. The ground floor rooms are slightly smaller and have sitouts that overlook the lawn. The food served is quite nice although the kitchen shuts early and you have to make sure to order your meals keeping in mind the kitchen work timings.
The best part of the stay is the safari rides which the reception will arrange for you and also a trip to a near by river for fishing. If you pick an early evening safari then chances of spotting bisons, elephants and deer are high. It was quite thrilling especially for the kids to see wild animals from so close.
Overall our two day stay at Nest Inn and the wildlife experience made it a satisfactory trip
- The idea to go to...

Best Experience: Jungle Hut needs special mention purely because of the people. Vikram & Anushri Mathias - the owners were very pleasant & social people. When you talk to them even the first time, you get a feeling you\'re actually talking to some of your old friends. Mr. Jimmy, who manages the show there, is determined to make you feel comfortable. The entire crew at the resort are no less and work around a simple principle - \'Keep Smiling\'. Very friendly & hospitable people. I don’t remember seeing any grumpy faces in the resort whatsoever reason. The rooms were ok, but the view of the jungle outside the room was very good. The food was very good indeed and we couldn’t stop hogging. They also have a badminton court for those who are keen. The swimming pool is nice & adds values to the resort though we couldn’t use it due to the rains.
- Good Property, room and service. Overpriced

We went by the rates which is tad close to 5K per night and the food cost of Rs 1800 per head (Making a stay for 2 amount to close to 8. 8 -9k per night) and expected 5 star property, facilities and food. But this was waaay below the expectations.
It is an overpriced homestay, with home cooked food and courteous owners.
Property in the midst of wildlife - the deers and elephants come into the property after dusk. The resort also has its own livestock which is nice ..
The rooms - are nicely done and spacious
View - is great in every room
A movie room - which has great acoustics
Over priced rooms - basic amenities
No TV or AC in standard rooms
No mineral water bottles
WiFi is charged extra
Mandatory food cost of Rs 1800 per head (they make minimum 3, 600 per room in addition to the room rent per room) for simple home cooked food served as buffet (A resort as great as the Tamara Coorg would cost you just 15 K for 2 people inclusive of all meals and taxes for a presidential villa)
The visitors get asked to check out at 11 Am itself (although the official check out time is 12 Noon), however the rooms get allot ed only by 12:30
OK for a one-time visit if you want a get away from Bangalore for a day. I'm sure there are better options!
- An awesome experience & a paradise for bird lovers

Life at Jungle Hut is calm & tranquil; living in the midst of unruffled nature. Deer freely walk around the whole property; we woke up our very first morning to find a big herd of them right outside our room. If you are a bird-watcher this place is your paradise. Jungle Hut organised two bird watching trails for us, one into the Jungle and one over a hill. We spotted many species including the paradise flycatcher, spotted owlets, long tailed shriek, purple sun-bird etc. They also organised a jungle safari at the Bandipur forest and an evening road safari which was great fun! We also saw a Giant Malabar Squirrel on the property; it's made its home there.
They have beautiful, big rooms to stay in, a very nice dining area and a comfortable lounge area with a bar. The pool area is gorgeous, with the pool facing directly the jungle and hills behind.
The food is finger-licking good! They serve the local preparations along with some continental varieties. We had wholesome, hearty and super tasty meals right from breakfast to dinner.
Their hospitality is amazing; they make sure you feel at home the moment you enter. We left with really cool Jungle Hut t-shirts that we bought from the reception. Will go back to Masinagudi just to visit Jungle Hut.
- Wake up in the wild!

Jungle Hut in a sentence would be: Luxury amidst the wild. The property is situated close to the hills as you might notice in the pictures I have posted. The place is run by a pleasant couple with two lovely children who've relocated from Bangalore to Masinagudi.
Jungle Hut is a place for people who enjoy the wild, love the peace and actually appreciate beauty nature has to offer.
It's a great place to take a long weekend break, enjoy some delicious food (menu changes everyday, so you're in for a surprise!), go on amazing treks and oh! These guys have an in house ornithologist who can spot the most exotic of birds.
If you are looking at having a party with a bunch of friends, this might not be the place for you. This is a place to rejuvenate, breathe in pure oxygen and experience the wild.
P. S Be sure to wake early to catch spotted deer at your doorstep and if you're up late and lucky, you just might catch the tiger.
