When I've booked the hotel from "Makemytrip", I was a bit hesitant as it was mentioned that it is a bit far from upper Pelling. But still based on the positive feedback from "trip adviser" I've booked it for 17th and 18th May for my full family. And now I can surely tell that it was an absolute right decision. The entrance of the hotel gives an old European feel. The main gate, the name plate and even the letter box gives a vintage flavour. The manager "Vivek" himself welcomed us personally and took care of the transfer of the luggages to our rooms. The hotel has total six rooms, two at ground floor and four at 1st floor. We got two rooms at the 1st floor - 201 & 203. Rooms were adequately spacious with a wooden floor and big windows. The interior was just perfect without any unnecessary fat. The bathroom was spacious, very clean and most importantly having 24 X 7 hot water supply. They have already kept the geysers on, so we got immediate hot water to get ourselves fresh after 4 hours journey from Namchi. The two Bath towels, one hand towels, the bedsheets and pillow covers all were very clean and super white. Two glasses were kept at each room with properly wrapped with papers cover. Tea was served quite fast after the order in a very way. We have taken the dinner at their dining hall at ground floor. It was also very clean and adequately decorated without any unnecessary luxury. Even the hand washing area is also very clean and hygienic. But what I liked most is the personalized care of Mr. Vivek and his team of two very sweet girls. They were present throughout the time of our dinner and breakfast and served with lots of personal touch ( even they have proactively adjusted the sit height of my little daughter's chair to make her comfortable). The exterior of the property needs to be mentioned. As it is situated a bit far from the locality, you can truly feel the touch of nature sitting at the backyard of the house along with the mesmerizing view of "Kanchanjangha" and "Kabur". Mr. Vivek gave us a detailed description of the flora and fauna of the locality. My brother even collected few saplings to grow at his home garden. Overall a truly memorable experience for the best ever hospitality I've ever had in a budget hotel.
Details: 32 standard rooms with 16 mountain facing. All at Rs. 3000/night with complementary breakfast
1. Great location: Situated right between upper and middle Pelling you are far from the madding crowds and again at walking distance of the bustling lower Pelling restaurants and the must try 'icing bakery'.
2. Fantastic hospitality: Right from the moment we arrived after a long, tiring drive from Tsomgo. They asked us to sit in their warm lobby and offered us tea even before finding whether we will be checking in. They will customise everything to your liking. From breakfast to dinner. They even provided free packed breakfast on the day of our departure as we were leaving early though complementary breakfast was not covered in our plan.
3. Excellent travel desk: When asked about travel desk they provided with options of travel agents and requested us to talk to them personally. And when asked to recommend one they recommended let's go travels. Albeit a few hundred rupees extra than other travels, they provided the best cars possible with really skilled and pleasant drivers. Hats off to Let's Go Travels as well.
4. Outstanding view: Best possible view of Kanchenjunga range all while sitting in your room and sipping coffee. Not just the mountains great view of the valley as well.
5. Nice room: Not just the view, the room is clean. Really well furnished with clean linen and an awesome spring mattress. Nice lighting and a great couch. Great LCD TV as well with good reception.
6. Good bathroom: Smallish but with all facilities including 24 hrs hot water. They provided toiletries as well.
7. Room also had an electric kettle with tea bags, etc.
1. Iffy food: They try their best but I guess their speciality is continental and at best Indian. Best to avoid their Chinese fare. If having tea or coffee ask to give the sugar separately.
2. No lift. Be warned. So opt for the lower floors.
That's it. No more cons. De Regency offered a near five star experience at the cheapest possible rate. Add to it their warmth and hospitality you have the ingredients for the best possible holiday in the magic town of pelling. Surely will visit again just to enjoy the hospitality of Mr. Lawrence, Rupesh and the guys.
We reached Pelling (from namchi) at 1 hour before sunset and wanted to visit singshore bridge and return before sunset. We enquired about the route from a man standing outside hotel phamrong, he told us that it may take 1. 30 hrs to go and come back from singshore. Road was almost OK so we decided to go ahead. Incidentally he was the manager of hotel phamrong. He offered us that we can leave our baggage at the hotel. (I and wife were riding on a mpotorcycle) we told him that although we have not booked a hotel yet but not sure about staying at his hotel. The nice man smiled and said, "no matter. Its your choice. " We unloaded our baggage at his hotel and started to singshore. Upon returning we saw the rooms and found them nice. We selected a room from where kanchanzanga's view would be best. Room was neat and clean with ample space. So was the washroom. Hot and cold water was available all time. We didn't take our dinner there. Had it at some restaurant. In the morning at 4:30 AM, we waked up to see the famous kanchanzanga. And we didn't have to move from our bed. We just opened the window and the stunning kanchanzanga was in-front of us, steadily coming to brightness. We also went to the terrace to take. Shot some pictures. There is a painting hanging on a side wall, on the terrace, depicting the names of the peaks that are visible from Pelling. Overall a memorable moment .. I am attaching some pics of the great kanchanzanga as viewed from the hotel during sunrise and also of the painting that depicts the peaks visible from pealing
We are a small family of three that wanted to get far from noisy Mumbai and purely on a whim, picked this hotel for a Dec 2015 vacation. We wanted a low stress, slow paced vacation with the freedom to sit, stroll and soak in the ambience. We flew in to Bagdogra and took the road to the hotel. If you have never traveled by road in this part of the country before, be forewarned that the road is bad, can be scary at times and the trip is best completed in daylight. However, the en-route views were often spectacular, the air was fresh and clean, we had a calm and sober driver in a very clean Innova and the hotel at the journey's end was totally worth it. The hotel does not offer pick-up or drop off, you have to make your own arrangements.
The hotel is beautifully located with the Pemayangtse monastery and the residence of the local MLA as it's neighbours. No other clutter or construction, it is not a 'tourist hub', no noise, crowds and multiple options for food/entertainment outside the hotel - exactly what we wanted in a 'getaway'. The gardens are beautiful, as are all the common areas. Our room had a great view of the gardens, the valley beyond and supposedly, Kanchenjunga. However, the weather never cleared during our 3 days there for the great mountain view.
Food is simple, wholesome and tasty, the menu and service have a very 'club' feel from bygone days. The staff are very well- turned out, extremely helpful and attentive. The housekeeping is very good and Mrs. Tshering even looked after our 7-year old when we stepped out for a short hike that would have been too much for him.
Make it a point to visit the Rabdentse Palace ruins when you are there - you can walk it. The locals are warm and friendly. We had tea and snacks in a local's hut not far from the hotel and their kid guided us to the palace ruins as we had missed the turn earlier. The Kanchenjunga falls and Khechuperi Lake are not far either.
If you like quiet, beautiful, isolated places with great service, this could be the one for you.
Pros :- * Great view of Kanchenjunga from all rooms (depends on cloud cover and luck). * Beautiful property (ex-Royal Guest House). * Spacious lounge with plush seating to lose yourself in a book or newspaper with a fireplace to keep you warm. * Good food, they will even pack your food if you are leaving early or out for sightseeing. * Managed by a very friendly couple. Make sure you meet them. * Rooms are cosy, warm and have enough privacy/soundproofing. * A small but nice garden outside. * You get to meet a large Samayo dog (all furry, white and of Russian descent) by the name of Mickey. He loves being fondled. * Prompt laundry service.
Cons :- * Hot water, some rooms (104 for instance) do not give you more than quarter bucket of hot water. Make sure you check the hot water once you move and get the room changed if two persons can't take a hot shower one after another. They have a separate geyser for each bathroom.
Summary : You can really lay back and enjoy yourself in this comfortable place. Just pick a good room with hot water though.
