We reached Pelling (from namchi) at 1 hour before sunset and wanted to visit singshore bridge and return before sunset. We enquired about the route from a man standing outside hotel phamrong, he told us that it may take 1. 30 hrs to go and come back from singshore. Road was almost OK so we decided to go ahead. Incidentally he was the manager of hotel phamrong. He offered us that we can leave our baggage at the hotel. (I and wife were riding on a mpotorcycle) we told him that although we have not booked a hotel yet but not sure about staying at his hotel. The nice man smiled and said, "no matter. Its your choice. " We unloaded our baggage at his hotel and started to singshore. Upon returning we saw the rooms and found them nice. We selected a room from where kanchanzanga's view would be best. Room was neat and clean with ample space. So was the washroom. Hot and cold water was available all time. We didn't take our dinner there. Had it at some restaurant. In the morning at 4:30 AM, we waked up to see the famous kanchanzanga. And we didn't have to move from our bed. We just opened the window and the stunning kanchanzanga was in-front of us, steadily coming to brightness. We also went to the terrace to take. Shot some pictures. There is a painting hanging on a side wall, on the terrace, depicting the names of the peaks that are visible from Pelling. Overall a memorable moment .. I am attaching some pics of the great kanchanzanga as viewed from the hotel during sunrise and also of the painting that depicts the peaks visible from pealing
We are a small family of three that wanted to get far from noisy Mumbai and purely on a whim, picked this hotel for a Dec 2015 vacation. We wanted a low stress, slow paced vacation with the freedom to sit, stroll and soak in the ambience. We flew in to Bagdogra and took the road to the hotel. If you have never traveled by road in this part of the country before, be forewarned that the road is bad, can be scary at times and the trip is best completed in daylight. However, the en-route views were often spectacular, the air was fresh and clean, we had a calm and sober driver in a very clean Innova and the hotel at the journey's end was totally worth it. The hotel does not offer pick-up or drop off, you have to make your own arrangements.
The hotel is beautifully located with the Pemayangtse monastery and the residence of the local MLA as it's neighbours. No other clutter or construction, it is not a 'tourist hub', no noise, crowds and multiple options for food/entertainment outside the hotel - exactly what we wanted in a 'getaway'. The gardens are beautiful, as are all the common areas. Our room had a great view of the gardens, the valley beyond and supposedly, Kanchenjunga. However, the weather never cleared during our 3 days there for the great mountain view.
Food is simple, wholesome and tasty, the menu and service have a very 'club' feel from bygone days. The staff are very well- turned out, extremely helpful and attentive. The housekeeping is very good and Mrs. Tshering even looked after our 7-year old when we stepped out for a short hike that would have been too much for him.
Make it a point to visit the Rabdentse Palace ruins when you are there - you can walk it. The locals are warm and friendly. We had tea and snacks in a local's hut not far from the hotel and their kid guided us to the palace ruins as we had missed the turn earlier. The Kanchenjunga falls and Khechuperi Lake are not far either.
If you like quiet, beautiful, isolated places with great service, this could be the one for you.
Great rooms, great location facing Kanchanjangha. Excellent hospitality, very helpful staff, kept all promises. Will visit again! Highly recommended.
Best Experience: The hotel staff gave very good directions to places that can be visited on foot. Food was always hot and fresh from oven. The hotel owners and employees chated with us during the meals. They made a calculation error and charged us less. When we pointed that out they just waived us the excess amount!
Worst Experience: We booked three rooms. One of them had a small leak in the flush pipe.
When we set out from kaluk to Pelling, we didn't have booking of rooms, not even a single one. So, we had plenty of options at our disposal. But reality is man proposes, god disposes. Hardly there was a room within our budget as hundreds of tourists occupied the entire Pelling hotels. With two hexagenarian people with us, we felt at a loss. An elderly person from a nearby shop shouted at me, "why don't you try Pemaling hotel whether there is accommodation or not? It's a pretty good hotel." giving a dry 'thank you, sir’ my wife and I turned towards a building he was indicating.
As soon as we entered into the hotel Pemaling, a young lady holding a very small kid greeted us with the most sacred smiles one could imagine. She welcomed us and enquired us what it was for. Next, everything was settled so smoothly that we could hardly blame anybody. After the wonderful complimentary tea, we checked-in two of the finest rooms the hotel could offer. The center table of our room showcased a beautiful vase furnished with seasonal orchids which added the oomph to the walls adorned with sketches of the old tamangs. It was too much to ask for at a price we could afford in such time of the year.
The bathroom was spic and span with laundries like towels, soaps, tissue papers in their respective racks. Now there was a call for the lunch and we moved to the dining area. That is one helluva place with intricate woodworks all around. The Bengali lunch that we had, must have been one of our best in whole Sikkim.
That evening, a family ritual was in full flow in the second floor. We were invited to the celebration so we joined them. We were given 'prasad' of lord Buddha. Next came the fine dining we always craved for. The spread was marvellous and the lipsmacking 'chicken bharta' - omg, to die for. The rest is, period.
Hospitality of 'A' class category, food being so tasty and yummy, rooms are very classy and above all, view of the mighty Kanchenjunga from our rooms made our trip very special and memorable. And by the way, the lady with the baby happened to be the owner of the hotel. They call her tashi.
I would just say...this is my best holiday so far.
Best Experience: The way we were taken care of right from the time we arrived at Bagdogra till we reached the hotel i Pelling n there after..food,travel,the vehicles and those smiling faces of staff...cant expect more!!!!
