A week's time & the picturesque Rishikesh, what else does a nature lover want? A perfect blend of beauty with bliss of peace for a desired break from a busy life. It was the month of October when I, along with my friend, went to spend some quality time there. The first thing that caught our attention was the beauty of Himalayas; it was just like a canvas of a great artist with lowly hanging clouds and green mountains. But suddenly, some thing else came to our mind, where to stay? We saw a few cottages at river site and we liked them, but the challenge was in front of us - there was no electricity, no washrooms and we didn’t want ourselves to be the delicious dinner of the mosquitoes. So we opted for river rafting & cliff jumping. During this, we met a couple and they told us about this resort they were staying in. They told us how good the services are & how beautiful it is. So we thought to stay there, instead of staying at those riverside cottages. Reaching there itself was fun and it was adventurous. The place is situated on the outskirts of Rishikesh; amidst mountains on the riverbed near Phool Chitti Ashram (resort). There were 10-15 huts (cottages) with open spaces around them with the river flowing nearby. We were highly impressed by the atmosphere. The cottage had two beds along with a bathroom and other basic needs with sufficient space inside it. We reached when they were serving snacks; they were serving pakoras, which were too tempting to resist! At the same time, they arranged a bonfire & DJ, which charged us and we danced till we were tired! The stream of crystal clear water near the resort makes the setup even more beautiful and serene. We spent 2 hours there, sitting and chatting and all our fatigue was replaced by happiness and energy. The sun sets early there, so soon, it was dinnertime. The food was finger licking good. The staff was very humble and served us endlessly. After eating the marvellous food, we retired in our cottage. The excitement to watch the sunrise made us wake up early. It was beautiful with fog & clouds surrounding us, and it was so pleasant that we felt at peace with nature. It was worth sacrificing a little sleep! We enjoyed morning tea & played badminton for hours, followed by other activities as the day unfolded. The trip was refreshing. The hotel is located near Phool Chitti Resort. You have to take a taxi from Rishikesh (4-5 km and will cost around Rs. 200-30o.) The cottages are spacious with an attached bathroom and are hygienic. In addition to the bonfire and DJ, activities offered at the resort include rafting, cliff jumping, trekking, badminton, bungee jumping and much more. Food is served 4 times during the day and includes both, veg and non-veg. You can also customize your meal. Overall, it’s worth spending your money.
Visited the place with family - children, adults and grandparents - essentially for the children to have a good time.
The Hotel is located fairly away from Rishikesh and that is its strength. It's a peaceful location with awesome natural beauty. The tranquil and beautiful settings made the outing enjoyable even for the grandparents who could not participate in the adventure activities. We were received at Haridwar Railway station (on chargeable basis) and transported to Atali. The management allowed us early check-in one of three rooms despite a packed schedule. The effort and sincerity of the entire staff in making our entire stay pleasant and enjoyable was remarkable.
The adventure activities were planned out extremely well - all logistics in place - without making the activities too comfortable and hence dull - the adventure part was retained but support logistics for a contingency were reassuringly available at hand. We enjoyed the rafting, kayaking, trek, giant ladder and the swing. The staff also accommodated our request for the obstacle course for the children at nominal charges.
There's a compact 4 feet swimming pool which is well maintained and a great place to relax after the day's activities.
The package was all inclusive (and no HIDDEN charges - we also went to another Camp where the activities were included but transportation to the activities sight was NOT - and given the location - that can be a substantial amount and effort). The buffet spreads were nutritious and tasty and fresh!!
There is NO TV in any of the cottages and we never missed it (not the children - not the grandparents).
Manoj and Shivani managed the show and are excellent hosts who anticipate your requirements and give good suggestions.
- the STAFF!! Extremely helpful and courteous.
- the location - very pretty!!
- the amenities - very appropriate and thoughtful.
- the food - excellent, fresh and tasty with adequate variety.
- If it's a religious holiday, the place is way out and NOT advisable. Ram / Laxman Jhula, the Yoga Ashrams, etc are in Rishikesh and a long commute from the place.
- For the elderly, be sure to ask for cottage 2, 3, 4 or 7 to avoid strenuous commutes. The rest of the cottages can be challenging for old knees. (Again, the management had advised on this before the visit and was very sound advice!!
- the cost (although in hindsight - the experience is definitely worth the charges!!
Best time to visit - Given the location and the facilities - mostly anytime should be good. Best time weather wise would be Jan - Mar, Sep - Dec would be nice if you enjoy the cold. I think the monsoons would be great too :) though restricted on the activities (Rafting, Kayaking activities are not permitted in July and Aug by the State).
Do take dri-fits for the water activities, sun shades and sun protection.
Do let the hosts (Manoj / Shivani) know of your requirements in advance and be assured that you will get good advice on your itinerary.
If you are visiting Rishikesh on vacation other than for religious reasons, this is the ONLY place to be.
I had visited Rishikesh with me friends both for an adventure trip, as well as for religious purpose (due to its proximity to Haridwar). My travel agent booked this hotel for me. On arriving at the hotel, right from check-in to checkout, the stay had been really memorable.
The staff at the reception were really pleasant. The hotel rooms were clean and interiors were well maintained. Even the washrooms were clean and hygienic. Although we couldn't get time to avail the service, the hotel even offers a variety of spa services. The location of the hotel was very close to major tourist attractions such as Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula. The staff were also very helpful in arranging for adventure activities such as river rafting and bungee jumping.
Rishikesh is a pure vegetarian city and the restaurant at the hotel - Ambrozia - did perfect justice to the food. Although it was a tad bit expensive, the quality of the food was really good and the service was prompt. The room service was prompt as well and food was delivered to the rooms in a very hygienic manner - wrapped in foils and properly covered with lids.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rishikesh. You are sure to get pampered by the service!
I am sharing my experience for the Rafting and Camping at Camp Roller Coaster Shivpuri.
I was travelling with my friends. We reached the camp office at Rishikesh in the morning at 11 am, from there we got the taxi and left for the camp, it was about 25 km drive from Rishikesh. We reached there in 1 hr when we reached we were mesmerized to see the beauty around we checked in and arranged ourselves in camps.
We took the river facing camp as it was having more beautiful scene. Then we had lunch and post we explored the nearby area.
In the evening we played Volleyball and then had tea. Around 8 pm there was bonfire and snacks you can have your drinks at that time. We enjoyed, had dinner and slept
It was very cold so you are advised to carry proper woolen clothes. Next morning we get up early and left for Rock Climbing and Rappelling. The site was near to our camp. We returned in about 1 hr then we had breakfast and then packed our luggage and left for rafting.
Our rafting was 24 km route from marine drive to Laxman Jhula. The site was about 15 km from our camp we reached there and met our Rafting guide Prakash instructed us and we started rafting the water was ice cool as it was Nov the members on the raft must be active and should follow the orders of guide. We passed through various rapids and finally reached our end point.
Things to keep in mind while going on an Rafting Camp:-
1) Proper woolen clothes must be taken as the climate is very cold especially at nights . 2) Must negotiate the prices of your package as the agents usually charge higher prices . 3) Carry the things of your daily need as there is no shop near the camps . 4) Carry your liquor as it is not available in Rishikesh . 5) Inform your agent about your meal if your are non-vegetarian or not . 6) Before rafting must keep in mind that the life jacket is properly worn and must not take it out . 7) Keep a torch, and also cold and fever medicine with you .
