The process of booking etc was very smooth - the manager and staff were very responsive both on the phone and email, and were limited by connectivity only. They were very flexible and accommodative too.
Kalipur is not easy to get to - the best bet is to go by the day bus from Port Blair to Diglipur, (so you experience first hand the length and variety of the Andaman Islands) and then jeep from the bus stop to Pristine Resorts -Rs500) but one can also take the day ferry. The day bus was tolerable - had seats with more leg room than in economy seats of international flights, the ferry rides were pleasant (though loading the buses onto the barges appear hairy, they by-and-large know what they are doing) and we get to see the landscapes. Several toilet stops with Indian-style clean toilets that have functional doors and taps with running water. Return may be best by night ferry back to Port Blair. Pristine resorts were very helpful in getting return tickets. We could not make the night ferry because it does not run every night, so had to take the SS night bus. Seats were similar to the day bus, as were the toilet stops, but they played loud music the whole time (saying the driver needed it!), they left a bright light in the aisle on the whole time, besides having super-bright decorative and flashing coloured lights to light up their gods, which were also on through the night. All of this happened even when driving through the reserve forest in the convoy. More conducive to exhaustion than sleep :( The road travel is constrained by the timings of the government convoy through the reserve area (it is mandatory that the drive through the reserve area is done as part of the convoy), but buses seem to get priority and the whole thing worked pretty smoothly.
The resort: The location is brilliant. Walking distance from sea, a longish walk or auto rickshaw ride to the foot of the Saddle Peak hike, and a 20-minute rickshaw ride away from the Aerial jetty from where the ferries to Ross&Smith islands ply. The turtle-nesting monitoring hut of the forest department is a stone's throw away so we got to see a sea turtle too.
The food and service is outstanding. Every single member of the staff was excellent, extending personal attention. They were flexible with the timings too, feeding us before our early morning outings and providing us packed lunch.
We got a very good guide to climb Saddle Peak. They also rent out snorkelling masks, tubes and flippers at very reasonable rates, which we rented to go snorkelling in Ross&Smith.
The rooms at Pristine were clean and generally OK but had a major drawback: They did not have netting on the windows to keep the mosquitoes out, so we were forced to turn the air-conditioner on even with beautiful weather outside. The bathroom was very clean and comfortable, but lacked aeration and sunlight. Perhaps because of being shut off without enough aeration they seemed to be a nice field for cockroaches! Pristine does have log huts which have a more open feel and are not air-conditioned, and we would have preferred those, but these huts were not functional during our stay.
A resort that claims to be eco-friendly ought not to depend on air-conditioning especially in weather such as the Andamans, since it is easy to keep the heat out using high-level ventilation, fans, thatched verandahs and greenery. And mosquitoes should be kept out with netting on the windows and an optional net for the bed. Besides, being denied the feel of the sea breeze during the night was sad.
Andaman's is undoubtedly a perfect honeymoon destination, completely private and secluded place. For those nature lovers, this is the destined place to play magics with your camera. The crystal clear water and the fun loving people adds beauty to the place.
Best Experience: i gained 5 kgs and thanks to the yummy sea food esp the jumbo sized prawns and the delicious morning breakfast bread with cheese omlette. unlimited fun snorkelling.
Worst Experience: actually none, but was slightly disappointed that there is not much night life, but nevertheless, its a safe and sound place and you are too tired by evening to even enjoi night life, cos you have too much to do during the day.
Planned my honeymoon trip to Andamans and surely it was one helluva experience. I went for a 10 day trip and included a visit to Diglipur. The journey from Port Blair to Baratang and then to Diglipur is very tiring as the journey involves travelling in convoy for about 100 kms at speed limits and crossing via two ferries. It took half a day of travelling to reach Diglipur but after reaching the hotel we were mighty pleased. The hotel is located even further from the Diglipur Town near Kalipur. It's a huge property with a nice, courteous staff and a very helpful owner Mr. Alex.
We were delighted as our deluxe stay was upgraded to a super deluxe as they had availability issues. The rooms were neat and clean. The amenities were good too.
The food was the most delightful part as we had not expected such exquisite taste in such part of the world. It really tasted better than some restaurants in Mumbai.
Also Mr. Alex took us to experience Turtle Nesting at Kalipur Beach in the night but we were not fortunate enough to have seen that.
Really enjoyed the stay here and also the hospitality of Mr. ALex. I would definitely recommend for honeymoon couples to visit the property.
My visit to Pristine Beach Resort was purely on recommendation from my friends who visited them last year, and i also confirmed it with trip adviser. The place is located closer to the beach inside a organic farm surrounded with coconut groove,Primary jungle's and paddy field, they have a bar and two restaurant(one for breakfast, indoor activity, and the other one serves lunch and dinner(here you can have fresh catch of the day like fish, crab, prawns etc),their pricing for dishes are very reasonable. The rooms and the toilets are very clean, their beds are soft and comfortable, all in all they have maintained the place well,The cream of the cake is the owner and the staff of the resort, they are supper helpful and friendly with no hidden thought's behind their service. There are few shops in the village where you could buy all your basic requirements, they also have few tea stalls where you could have tea and interact with the villagers. I would strongly recommend this place for all other travelers who like nature, birds chirping in the morning, turtle nesting at night, beautiful white sandy beach, cave, trekking, mud volcano, best snorkeling .(It is definitely not for the people who wants to have party) this place is for nature lovers. The tourist's are recommended to carry good quality mask and snorkel and torch, apparently the snorkeling in Kalipur beach and towards Craggy island is the best of all, so far i have seen in Andaman s.Ask the people in the resort to take you for turtle nesting in the night, please do not venture by your self.
Excellent place of Andaman/Diglipur. Generally people who travel or tour operators make tour of 3 to 5 days and does not include Diglipur in their schedules. But people like us and some foreigners who love to visit heaven of Andaman. It isn't worth to visit Andaman if you don't visit this place and if you visit Diglipur then this is the best place to stay. Very beautiful place, well organised, well maintained, excellent rooms and service, nice food and beverages. Very beautiful beach behind. In short must visit place of Andaman. Pristine also allows you to book rooms online, so you can book rooms online from anywhere. Attitude towards customer is positive.
