Al Ain National Museum is the oldest museum in UAE and is located next to the Eastern Fort, which is also known as the Al Hosn Palace. Built under the directions of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the museum is segmented into two main sections, the Archaeological and Ethnographical sections. In addition to these sections, the museum also comprises of a third section where artefacts are available on sale.
The Ethnographical Section showcases the pre-oil history of UAE covering those aspects, which have been lost in recent times. The museum also organises exhibitions featuring a wide collection of black and white photographs belonging to the 1960s. This section also houses several items like agricultural tools, female jewellery and crafts that depict the local culture of the region.
On the other hand, the Archaeological section of the museum comprises of findings that belong to the era of the Stone Age through the Islamic Period. This section houses the oldest discoveries including flint tools, stone scrappers along with fine arrowheads. The Archaeological section also exhibits coin collection and gold pendants. In addition, this section showcases the discoveries made over the past few decades throughout the Middle East Area.
