Phom Phet, popularly known as Phom Phet Pairote, is the only fort in Ayutthaya which has survived the ravages of time. It is located in Bangkaja, a place where the two rivers Chao Phraya and Pasak meet.
The fortress is believed to have been built during the reign of King Mahathammaracha after the loss of Ayutthaya to the Burmese for the first time in 1549.
