Housing many richly decorated palaces, the origin of Royal Grand Palace dates back to 1782 when Bangkok became the capital of Thailand. The holy temple of Wat Phra Kaeo with the Emerald Buddha is the prime attraction here.
There is a stipulated dress code. The majestic palace has a total area of 218,400 sq. meters. The length of the four walls spans 1900 meters. Several government offices, the royal residences, and the Chapel Royal of the Emerald Buddha are located within the Royal Grand Palace.
The architectural beauty of the Royal Grand Palace follows traditions of the Ayutthaya period. The central building, as seen today, is an exception though. It was constructed as the Chakri Maha Prasat during King Rama V’s tenure.
The beauty of the palace lies in its vastness. Initially the area of the core palace was 51 acres; it was expanded to 60 acres during the time of King Rama II.
Out of the several residential complexes within the campus of the Royal Grand Palace, the Dusit Maha Prasat and the Phra Maha Monthian are notable. These two edifices are contemporary with the foundation of Bangkok.
If we visit Bangkok in the mid December is it worth it? Can we friends have fun at that point of time? And what can we do over there and where all can we visit? And do we get any tour guides to show us the entire place?
What are the attractions we should not miss in at Bangkok? Please suggest me some good food joints too. What are the options for recreations. Where can i take my children? Also enlighten me about the shopping options?
