Tourists planning a trip to Basel require an authorisation from the cantonal authorities and a visa from the Swiss visa desk. Visa is required by the citizens of all countries who intend to stay in Switzerland for more than three consecutive months. Citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Fiji, UAE, Philippines and Kenya require a visa for staying in the city for up to 90 days.
To visit the city, tourists can opt for tourist visa, transit visa, student visa, resident visa and business visa. For visiting the city, nationals of Ethiopia, India, Iran, Iraq, Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Turkey also require a visa.
Citizens of Schengen Area do not require a visa to visit the destination. Visa is not required by citizens of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovak, Poland, Estonia, Slovenia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Documents required for Visa to Basel
Indian citizens need to apply for a visa at the Swiss Visa Application Centre, for visiting the city. Issued with the submission of a copy of completed application form, tourist visa is valid for a period of up to three months from the date of entry in the city.
Indians need to submit a passport valid for at least six months, a visa form and two photographs with white background in size 35x45 mm, for applying for a tourist visa. Applicants also need to submit a cover letter stating the purpose of visit, confirmed return ticket, medical insurance, hotel confirmation and personal bank statements for the last six months.
To avail a business visa, tourists need to submit a passport valid for at least six months, a visa form and two photographs with white background in size 35x45 mm. Business visa can be availed by submitting a cover letter stating the purpose of visit, company profile or memorandum, and business invitation from the invitee company.
To avail this visa, business travellers can also submit confirmed return ticket, medical insurance, hotel confirmation, bank statements for last six months, and income tax returns for the last three years.
In order to avail a tourist visa, the fee is $81.20 for adults and $48.72 for children between 6 to 12 years. For minors under the age of 6 years, visa fee is exempted. To process the visa, time required is between 3 to 4 days.
Indian nationals need to make an appointment with the Swiss Visa Application Centre by stating their name, passport number, date of travel, number of applicants and the expiry date of the passport, to apply for a visa.
