| Banaue Rice Terraces |
|
The Banaue Rice Terraces are carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines. The rice terraces date back 2,000 years. Till date, the rice terraces are fed by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above them. These rice terraces are declared a National Cultural Treasure under the Ifugao Rice Terraces.
Banaue Rice Terraces is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Further, these are commonly referred to by Filipinos as the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'. These are located at an elevation of 1,500 metres above sea level and span an area of 10,360 square kilometres.
Batad Rice terraces, including those at Bangaan, Banaue, Hungduan, Mayoyao Central and Nagacadan are together inscribed as part of the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras.
