An adventure seeker can choose to embark on the Great Wall Hiking Tour. The Jiankou-Mutianyu section, near Beijing, is a challenging wall hike. This tour takes about a whole day (about 5 hours) and it is popular for its contrasting views of the sections of the original construction of the Wall and its restored parts.
Another day hike option is from Gubeikou to Jinshanling. This is a six-hour hike which provides scenes of the countryside and mountain peaks. The Huangyaguan & East Qing Tomb is a hike of a shorter duration but on a steeper portion of the wall.
Longer hikes of three days and nine days are also available and are recommended only for experienced and physically fit people.
Hikers should wear comfortable shoes and good quality hiking boots. It is advisable to carry plenty of water and keep oneself hydrated.
