The two means by which the island of Bora Bora in French Polynesia can be reached is by air or by water. When planning to travel by air, one has to first land at the international airport in Papeete, the capital of Tahiti, as it is the only airport in French Polynesia that attends to international flights. The airlines that serve Tahiti are Air New Zealand, Aircalin, Air Moorea, Air France, Air Tahiti, Hawaiian Airlines, Air Tahiti Nui, Qantas Airways and Lan Airlines. French Polynesia’s domestic airlines, Air Tahiti and Air Moorea, are the ones that take tourists to the island of Bora Bora from Tahiti. When travelling by water, tourists board an inter-island boat called Maupiti that runs three times every week. Tourists can reach Bora Bora both through airways and waterways. However, cruise ships do not operate on a regular basis. On the other hand, Air Tahiti runs daily flights from Papeete to Bora Bora. The flights from the islands of Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Maupiti and Raiatea do not take more than 50 minutes. There are also flights from Bora Bora to places like Tuamotus and Rangiroa, with the latter also connecting to Manihi. While there are daily flights from Bora Bora to Rangiroa, flights in the opposite direction are available only twice a week. |
