Travelling to Cairns

The Cairns International Airport (CNS) is situated about 8 kms north of Cairns and considered the international gateway to northern Queensland. The International and Domestic terminals are connected by a covered walkway.

The Cairns Airport is a major airport of Australia. It is serviced by almost all the National and International airlines. Connecting as well as direct flights are available from Cairns to Australia's major cities including Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Canberra.

The direct international flights to Cairns are from New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Japan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Auckland and other countries of the Asia Pacific.

From Cairns, direct domestic flights connect Brisbane, Melbourne, Darwin, Sydney, Alice Springs, Perth and Ayers Rock (Uluru). Most domestic and international visitors fly into Cairns because of the huge distance between Cairns and the southern capital cities of Australia.

An airport shuttle bus service takes tourists to hotels and to the city centre. Taxis are also available from outside the Arrivals hall. Courtesy bus services are also provided by many hotels that ply to and from the airport.

Certain cars rentals such as Avis, Hertz and Red Spot operate from the International arrival halls or the central concourse of the Domestic terminal.

The Airport also provides facilities like ATMs, restaurants, currency exchanges, shops, bars, baby-changing facilities, baggage storage and showers in the international and domestic terminals. It also provides parking facilities and facilities for the disabled.

The international terminal provides mobile phones on rent and a number of duty-free shops. There is also no departure tax.
