The city of Cairo has a typically desert climate, with very hot days and quite cool nights. It has only two major seasons, hot summer from May to October and mild winter from November to March. However, a brief spring season is also experienced from March to May.
In this dry city, the levels of humidity remain quite high during summers due to the effect of nearby river valley. The precipitation rate is also extremely low, amounting to only 24.7 mm per year. Cairo experiences rainfall for around 10 days in a year. Though sparse, these sudden showers often lead to harsh flooding conditions. In the months of March and April, one can also expect large sandstorms that are caused by the strong winds.
Throughout the year, the city remains warm with average temperature ranging from 20º C to 36º C. However, one can get relief from unbearably hot summers during the months of September through March. During this period, temperature ranges between 15º C to 25º C that is ideal for sightseeing activities.
