Car rentals are an easy way of getting around Cambodia. Though the roads are primarily dust-based, the dry season is convenient for travelling on roadways. Four seater and twelve seater cars are available. Four wheel drives are available for those interested in driving across the rugged terrain of the country.
Car rental agencies provide airport transfers, sightseeing trips and inter and intra-city travelling. There are many services that run between Phnom Penh and other cities. Cars can be rented on a monthly basis. Some of the car models for hire include Toyota Camry, Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV and Mercedes Van.
Usually, cars are available along with a driver. These drivers are to be paid on the basis of monthly salary. This is because the International Driving Permit is not accepted in Cambodia, which makes driving by tourists themselves illegal. The hired drivers work for six days a week and can also speak English and French.
International airports such as Pochentong and Siem International Airport have outlets of car rental agencies like Avis, Budget and Europcar from where tourists can hire a vehicle.
