Australia’s official currency is Australian Dollar and cent. The Australian Dollar notes are available in denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills and cents in 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, $1 and $2. These notes provide security against counterfeiting.
A foreign currency exchange counter is located on the ground floor of the central terminal of the Airport. The counter is open daily from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.
ATMs are available almost everywhere in Canberra but there is a transaction fee. Travellers’ cheques can be cashed at most of the banks of Canberra.
The normal banking hours in Canberra are Monday - Thursday 9:30 am to 4:00 pm and Fridays 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.
There are numerous Currency Exchange counters throughout Canberra. Most banks and hotels exchange currencies but some hotels have a limit to the amount of currency they can exchange.
