The rail terminus of the city is the Kingston train station. Twice a day, services from Sydney to Canberra are operated by the NSW Countrylink.
The train takes the route through the Molongolo Gorge and the Southern Highlands and arrives at Kingston which is very near to Lake Burley Griffin.
The Countrylink also operates a daily train between Canberra and Melbourne. During the peak season, tickets cost around $107 and during the off season, charges are around $91.
There is no direct rail service from Melbourne. Services are available only upto Cootamundra, Wodonga or Bairnsdale and from there one has to take a bus to reach Canberra. A train service is also available from Goulburn to Canberra that costs around $11 per person.
