The eruption of three volcanoes namely, Mt. Erciyes (3,917m), Mt. Hasan (3,263m) and Mt. Melendiz (2,963m) led to unique formations and valleys in the city of Cappadocia. The paths along these valleys provide hiking venues that are frequently visited by tourists from around the world.
The most popular place for hiking is the Rose and Red Valleys located between the Goreme and Cavusin villages. Divided into many smaller ones, these valleys allow tourists to visit several cave churches, cave houses and cave tunnels, during the hike. Hiking in these valleys may take around two to four hours, depending upon whether the path chosen is easy, medium or difficult.
Another common place suitable for hiking is the Ihlara Valley (14 km), at the bottom of which runs the Melendiz River. One can either walk through the entire valley for six hours or opt to take a short hike that lasts not more than two hours.
Besides, tourists can also head towards Pigeon Valley (4 km), Love Valley (1 km), Zemi Valley (5 km), Honey Valley (5 km) or Uzengi Valley (4 km) for hiking.
