Chiang Mai offers a variety of accommodation options ranging from boutique resorts, home-stays, serviced apartments and villas to hostels, cottages and guest houses. Most of the spas are located amidst the rice fields and tropical jungle, outside the city but the hotels are located near the entertainment venues within the city.
The numerous guesthouses located near the Night Market, Old Town, southern side of the moat, on the riverfront and in the suburbs of Chiang Mai provide the option of budget accommodation. Most guesthouses provide trekking services and arrange for cooking lessons.
The hotels provide a variety of cuisines ranging from haute cuisine to local delicacies like Thai snacks, curries, noodles and “pad thai.” Guests can also avail the popular Khantoke dinner. Most of the restaurants offer food along with Thai cultural music and dance.
Some of the international hotel chains in Chiang Mai are D2, Shangri La, Accor, Intercontinental and MGM Resorts International. Domestic hotel chains include the Imperial Hotels Group, Centara Hotels and Resorts, Amari Hotels and Resorts, etc.
Most hotels cater to business and leisure travellers and provide amenities such as outdoor pool, car rental services, airport pick-up, live entertainment, beauty salon, conference rooms, audio-visual equipment rental, etc.
Chiang Mai can be visited throughout the year but the city experiences peak season during the months of October to April. Some of the famous Thai festivals also take place during this period. Hotel tariffs usually increase during the peak season. Rates for Chiang Mai hotels are subject to 7% VAT and 10% service charge.
Chiang Mai has 197 hotels across 7 different categories - Hotel, Resort, Self-catering villa/Cottage, Apartment/Serviced apartment, B&B/Guest house/Hostel/Lodge, Boutique Hotel and General. |
