One of the most well known sightseeing options in Colombo is the Fort which dates back to the Portuguese and the Dutch era. Today, it houses various Government buildings and important financial centres.
Another sightseeing option in Colombo is the Cinnamon Gardens. They are also referred to as the Sunset Boulevard of Asia. The area has mansions of the VIPs of the country.
It also has the oldest and largest park of Colombo - the Viharamahadevi Park. The best time to come to the Park is during the months of March and April when the trees start flowering.
Among the historical sightseeing options, Colombo has the Ancient Rock Temples of Gampaha and the Bellanwala Royal Temple. The temples give a glimpse of the ancient architecture of the region. There are old churches and mosques in Colombo to explore too.
There is also the Dehiwala Zoo in Colombo, which is an attraction for kids. Apart from that, there is the Mini Medura or the aquarium. The Medura has more than 500 species of aquatic life. |
