The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) looks after the public transportation system of Dubai. On a regular working day, buses ply on 79 routes.
The Dubai bus system adjusts its schedules for Fridays and public holidays. At present, there are point timetables at 500 busy bus stops out of over 1860 stops. Dubai bus system has 9 bus stations and two depots at Al Awir and Al Qusais.
In addition to these, Bus number C10 follows the route from Hamriya Port to Jumeirah Beach Park. Bus number X25 takes people from Al Qusais, PTA Office to Dubai Marina.
Taxis in Dubai are operated by both the Dubai Transport Corporation and private companies like National Taxi and Metro Taxi. 61.41 INR is the minimum taxi fare which is charged at the rate of 18.42 INR per kilometre.
Taxis operate throughout the day and the week, including holidays. The minimum fare for taxis is 122.82 INR with no Salik fees being charged on the service. When booking taxis via its reservation and distribution facility, the starting metre fare is 73.69 INR from 6 am to 10 pm and 85.98 INR from 10 pm to 6 am.
The Dubai Metro is only partially operational on its Red line as of now, but it is estimated that the project will be completed by 2012. There are trains to metro stations at Nakheel Harbour and the Tower, Mall of the Emirates and Financial Centre. Other functional metro stations are Al Jafiliya, Khalid Bin Al Waleed Station, Union Square Station and Al Rigga Station.
Dubai Metro is operational from 6 am to 11 pm, with the timings of the last train varying upon days of the week and according to Ramadan. The minimum fare is 22.11 INR and maximum is 79.83 INR. A daily pass costing 171.95 INR is also available for unlimited trips on the metro in a single day.
In addition to the usual means of transportation, an abra (boat) is also available which can be used to cross the Dubai Creek. A fare of 12.28 INR is charged by these small boats that ferry passengers to abra stations in Baniyas Road and Bastakiya. Abras can also be hired for 1,228.23 INR.
