The two major companies that handle the public transport in Florence are ATAF and LI-NEA. One can be levied heavy fines for boarding the buses without a prior booked ticket. Only the shops that have a large T on them are authorized to sell bus tickets.
One can get the tickets from kiosks, newsagents, bars and tobacco shops. Apart from the day buses, there are night buses that run between 9 pm to 6 am. All the buses in Florence start from Santa Maria Novella Station. Average daily ticket is 297.78 INR. A three day ticket may cost 714.67 INR, whereas a four day ride costs 268 INR.
Getting a taxi from the side walk may not be possible in Florence. Two companies, Taxi Radio and Taxi Socota provide taxi services in different parts of the city. These taxi services can be availed through prior bookings and are available 24 hours.
Charges for taxis vary in terms of the day, holiday, number of travellers and night charges. Basic fare starts from 196.53 INR and may amount to 494.31 INR. Once the taxi is booked at the company, the nearest available taxi is sent to the person.
Rented bikes and cars are an option for moving within Florence. One can even walk to distant sightseeing locations. Tourists can book and hire bikes from rental points like Alinari and Bici e Baci.
