Travelling to Franz Josef

The bus station at Franz Josef is located 5 km from the city centre. It is located close to the Franz Josef Glacier. All the buses from Franz Josef to other parts of the country depart from this terminal.

The bus station has washrooms, ATMs and foreign exchange counters. Cafes at the bus station serve tea, coffee and snacks.

There are various bus operators providing services to and from the town of Franz Josef. Intercity Coachlines, which is the national bus operator of the country, operates eco friendly buses which are air conditioned. The buses have foot rests as well.

Intercity operates buses from Fox Glacier to Franz Josef every 40 minutes from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. It also operates buses to Greymouth and Christchurch every hour.

Great Sights and Newmans Coachlines are private operators running buses to and from the city. They operate deluxe buses which are air conditioned, have head rests and foot rests and on board washrooms. These operators run buses between Greymouth, Christchurch and Franz Josef every two hours.
