Buses operate in the city only from the city centre to the Glacier. They depart from the city centre every one hour. It takes about two hours from the city centre to the Glacier. The approximate fare for the bus from the city centre to the Franz Josef glacier is NZD 12 per person.
Taxis run in the city from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. They can be arranged from the hotel. Taxis are also available outside the bus terminal as well as the attractions of the city. The approximate fare for the taxis in Franz Josef is NZD 12 for a distance of 3-4 km.
Biking is another way of exploring the town. Bicycles can be arranged on rent. There is no requirement of any license to rent a bike. The approximate cost for renting a bicycle is NZD 25 for half day and NZD 40 for full day.
