Travelling to French Polynesia

The Faa'a International Airport in Tahiti is the only international airport serving French Polynesia. Most other islands like Bora Bora, Maupiti and Huahine have their respective domestic airports. Located in the town of Faa'a, the Faa'a International Airport serves as the main hub of national airline of French Polynesia, Air Tahiti and of Air Tahiti Nui.

Among domestic airports, the most important ones are those located in Bora Bora, Maupiti, Moorea and Huahine. The Motu Mute Airport is located in the islet of Motu Mute in Bora Bora. Along with Bora Bora, this airport also serves other islands like Maupiti and Moorea. Huahine airport is located on the islet of Motu Maeva.

Main Airports in French Polynesia
Among many airports of French Polynesia, only Faa'a International Airport in Tahiti serves both international as well as domestic flights to and from French Polynesia. This airport links French Polynesia to 33 international destinations including United States of America, India, South Africa and Australia.

Faa'a International Airport is located to the southwest of the capital city, Papeete. The distance between the airport and downtown Papeete is 5 km. Situated in the Faa'a district of Tahiti, this international airport is served by seven major airlines. There are three terminals at the airport, out of which two serve the international arrivals and departures, respectively. The third terminal is used for inter-island (domestic) flights.

The airport is run and managed by Setil Aeroports Company. It has just one runway, which stretches to a length of 3,420 m. This runway can accommodate commercial as well as military air planes. Facilities available at this airport include car rentals, restaurants, offices of tour operators and cyber points.

Various gift shops, pearl boutiques, flower shops and duty free shops are also built within the airport. For currency exchange, facilities like banks, post offices and money changers are also available at the airport which operate according to the schedule of flights.

Several domestic airports are located in most of the islands of French Polynesia, including Bora Bora, Moorea, Huahine and Maupiti. Motu Mute Airport (Bora Bora), Ahe Airport (Ahe), Makemo Airport (Makemo), Maupiti Airport (Maupiti) and Huahine Airport (Huahine) are some of the important domestic airports, serving French Polynesia.
 
Airlines in French Polynesia
Several international and domestic carriers link different islands of French Polynesia like Tahiti and Bora Bora to other parts of the world. Air Tahiti Nui is the national carrier of French Polynesia, operating maximum flights within as well as to and from the country.

The headquarters of Air Tahiti Nui is located in the Immueble Dexter in Papeete with its main base at the Faa'a International Airport. Air Tahiti Nui offers services to several international destinations including Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania.

Among other domestic airlines, Air Tahiti and Air Moorea are a few. Air Tahiti is the regional airline of French Polynesia, headquarters of which are based at the Faa'a International Airport.

The Air Tahiti network covers 46 islands within French Polynesia, along with the islands of Rarotonga. Air Moorea is a subsidiary of Air Tahiti, offering regular service to Moorea and Tahiti. It also flies to the island of Tetiaroa.

Other international carriers like Aircalin, Air New Zealand and Air France also link French Polynesia to different countries across the globe. Hawaiian Airlines and Lan Airlines are other carriers operating international flights to and from the country.
