Lake Geneva, one of the largest lakes in Western Europe, comes under the jurisdiction of Switzerland. Formed by a retreating glacier, it has a crescent shape that narrows around Yvoire on the southern shore.

The source of the river is the Rhone Glacier near the Grimsel Pass. The largest body of water in Switzerland, its northern shore is 95 kilometres in length, while the southern shore is 72 kilometres long. Alpine character of the shore of the lake is highly popular with the tourists.
While boating in the lake, tourists can avail views of the mountains of Savoy and Valais. With high-performance catamarans specifically designed for the lake, yacht racing is a popular sport. The city is located on the southern shore of the lake.
A popular picnic spot, the lake offers views of the snowy peaks of the Mont Blanc. In addition to this, tourists can also avail views of summits of the Grammont, Cornettes de Bise and Dent d'Oche from the lake.
