| North Stradbroke Island |
|
Accessible from the Gold Coast by ferry boat, North Stradbroke Island is one of the finest beaches for scuba diving. The island is a favourite among visitors for surfing as well as whale watching. Located in the Redlands Shire, the island is often called ‘Stradbroke’ or ‘Straddie’ among the locals.
Only one hour from Brisbane International Airport and Brisbane City as well as one and half hours from the Gold Coast, the island is easily accessible by vehicular ferry or fast water taxi from Cleveland.
Major attractions in the island include Point Lookout, Amity Point and Dunwich. Visitors can indulge in golf, 4WD tours, diving and other aquatic activities.
Stradbroke’s headlands and beaches are ideal for surfing, swimming, diving, kayaking and fishing throughout the year. Dolphins, whales, manta rays and turtles can be seen from Point Lookout at the northern tip of the island.
The island is included in the world’s most ecologically important wetlands and incorporates many waterways, freshwater lakes and lagoons.
