A traditional Chinese temple frequented by fishermen - the Tin Hau Temple located in Public Square Street is dedicated to the Taoist Sea Goddess. Along with the Fook Tak Tse, Shing Wong and Shea Tam Temples, it forms a complex.
The temples were built originally around 1870 on another site, but were later transferred to its present location in about 1876 and underwent renovation in 1972.
According to legend, Goddess Tin Hau descended on earth in the form of a fisherman’s daughter. She is believed to have saved the family with her supernatural powers when they were about to be drowned in a sea storm.
Her temple also contains statues of other deities.
