Visa regulations for Thailand alter on a regular basis, so travellers should gather the latest information from the Thai Consulate or Embassy.
Passport holders from 41 countries and Hong Kong SAR do not require a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes if their stay in the Kingdom does not exceed 30 days. This condition is valid only if the applicant has 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family for possible expenses.
These tourists also get a ‘Visa Waiver’ entry stamp on arrival at the airport which can be later extended by up to 10 days at any Thai immigration post. Arrival by land without a visa only provides 15 days of entry.
Indian nationals visiting Thailand are given visa on arrival for a maximum of 15 days. Visitors must have a valid passport with an expiry date not less than 6 months from the date of arrival. To obtain a visa one needs to show proof of sufficient funds at the amount of 10,000Baht per person or 20,000Baht per family, a valid return ticket within 15 days of arrival.
Visas on arrival are provided at 32 international checkpoints throughout the country. To obtain a visa one needs to submit a duly filled out application form attached with a 4 x 6 cm recent photograph. An application fee of 300 Baht is charged.
Visas issued on arrival are not eligible for extension except in special cases of emergency where the applicant is incapable of travel. Application for extension can be submitted at the Office of Immigration Bureau.
Transit visas can be obtained by submitting an application at the Office of Immigration Bureau.
Indian passport holders wishing to visit Thailand for more than 15 days can apply for a tourist visa. However with a tourist visa one cannot stay more than 30 days. To apply for a tourist visa one needs to submit a valid passport with expiry date not less than 6 months from date of arrival, completely filled out visa form with two recent 3.5x4.5 cm photographs, confirmed travel tickets, sufficient proof of funds (20,000Baht per person and 40,000Baht per family) and a self attested photocopy of the application form.
Transit visas are valid for three months and the period of stay cannot exceed 30 days. Visas can be obtained on providing a passport with validity not less than six months from the date of entry, proof of sufficient funds (10,000Baht per person), filled out application form with recent passport sized photograph, visa of a third country and a valid departing ticket from Thailand.
