Indonesia, lying close to the equator, enjoys a tropical climate all through the year. The climate is constant year-round with minimal changes. The variation in the climate of Indonesia is not due to air or temperature, but because of the rainfall.

Due to the rainfall, around 80% of the area is covered with warm water, ensuring stable land temperature. The inlands and the mountains record an average temperature of 26° Celsius, while an average annual temperature of 28° Celsius is recorded in the coastal plains. An average of 23° Celsius is recorded at higher altitudes, in the mountains.

The country experiences a relative humidity of 70% to 90%, with moderate and predictable winds. The months from June to September experience monsoon winds which blow from the south bringing torrential rainfall. However, in the months of December through March, the wind blows from the north-west direction.

The country witnesses dry season between the months of June and September. This is caused by the Australian continental air masses. The northern and the western part of the country experience maximum precipitation. The precipitation is due to the north and westward moving monsoon clouds which approach these areas. These clouds usually lose some amount of moisture as they approach other parts of Indonesia.

The best time to visit Indonesia is during the dry season, from May to October. During these months, the temperature ranges from 22° Celsius to 27° Celsius.
