There are several car rental companies in Ireland who have their kiosks at airports, major cities and ferry terminals across Ireland. Some of the major car rental companies like Avis, Hertz, Budget, Alamo etc. have their presence in the country.
It is better to make reservations in advance as the rental costs are lower. Most cars in the country have a standard shift, and if automatic cars are required, reservations need to be made in advance, and are available at an extra fee. Similarly, for child seats, advance notice needs to be given.
Rentals are available from USD11 per day and can go up to around USD200 per day, depending upon the make and type of car. SUVs, compact cars, luxury as well as premium cars are available on rent.
To hire a car, the driver should have a valid driver’s licence, issued nationally or an international driving permit. Traffic in Ireland moves on the left side of the road. If crossing the border to Northern Ireland, rental companies need to be intimated.
