The Archaeology Museum, locally known as Arkeoloji Muzesi, was built by the end of the 19th century. This museum has over 20 individual gallery spaces, housing a huge collection of artefacts and treasures dating back more than 5,000 years.
Collected from across Turkey and beyond, more than 15,000 items are housed in three different museums within the Archaeology Museum Complex.
Along with the Archaeological Museum, the Tiled Pavilion and the Museum of Oriental Antiquities also attracts huge number of tourists annually.
The three museums together consist of archaeological pieces from Ancient Mesopotamian, Pre-Greek Anatolian, Assyrian, Sumerian, Acadian, Babylonian, Ancient Egyptian and Pre-Islamic Arabian periods.
The major attractions of this museum are the ancient Greek sculptures, Mesopotamian artefacts and sarcophagus of Alexander the Great.
Other attractions of the museum include the sarcophagus of Mourning Ladies, and displays relating to the Ottoman Empire, Egypt and Lebanon's famed Sidon Necropolis.
Timing: 9:30 am – 5 pm (Tuesday - Sunday)
