The City Museum, housed in the Yildiz Palace, is an ideal place for learning about the culture and history of Istanbul.
Since 1939, the museum was located in the Bayezit Municipal Library, but was moved to the Fine Arts building of the Yildiz Palace complex in 1988.
The museum exhibits displays of the Ottoman takeover, renaming of the city from Constantinople to Istanbul and centuries of development.
Among the popular museum exhibits are paintings depicting the social life in Istanbul during the Ottoman period.
Calligraphy, textiles, porcelains and other everyday implements from the 18th and 19th centuries also interest visitors.
Timing: 9 am – 4:30 pm (Tuesday - Sunday)
