It is best to visit Istanbul during the months of spring, early summer and autumn. The city is most crowded at the beginning of spring in the month of April, when tourist activities become prominent.
The weather of Istanbul shows similarity to that of the Marmara region. However, its topography and maritime influences result in a multitude of distinct micro climates within the city.
With the transition between Mediterranean and Black Sea climates, Istanbul experiences all the four distinct seasons namely summer, winter, autumn and spring.
The driest season of the year is summer, which begins in June and lasts till September. During this season, the days are hot, with an average temperature of above 40° Celsius. Winds are quite rapid over this season, making it humid. However, rainfall is minimal in this part of Turkey during this time.
Autumn is considered as the longest season in Istanbul. During the months of September and October, although the days are crisp and overcast, the weather is unreliable.
In Istanbul, winters are usually cold, with an average temperature of 5° Celsius. Occasional rains or snow showers are also observed during the winter months, for a period of ten to twelve days.
The average annual precipitation at this time is 72 cm, and it is at its highest during the months of December and January.
The most comfortable season is spring, during which the temperature usually ranges between 15° Celsius and 25° Celsius.
