The local currency of Indonesia is Rupiah (Rp). The value of 1 Rp is equal to 100 sen. The denominations of coins come in Rp 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100. The bills come in denominations of Rp 100; 500; 1000; 5000; 10,000; 20,000; 50,000 and 1,00,000.

Currency can be exchanged at hotels and banks. Other than banks and hotels, money can also be exchanged with authorised money changers.

ATMs are widely available and accept foreign credit cards. Most of the major credit cards like Visa, MasterCard and Diners Card are widely accepted.

Traveller’s cheques in US dollars or Euros issued by well-known travel organizations or banks are negotiable in banks and hotels. Passports are essential when cashing travellers’ cheques and a commission may be charged.
