Gedung Pancasila

The Gedung Pancasila building was constructed in 1830. It is positioned to the southwest of Lapangan Banteng. It initially served as the official residence of the Dutch commander. Later it was converted into a meeting hall to be used by the People’s Council.

In 1945, the building was the venue for delivering the speech of the first president of Indonesia. The introduction of the constitution of Indonesia also happened here.

During the 1830s, the Gedung Pancasila building was a residential mansion for the Dutch officials. It was used as the meeting place for the leaders of the Advisory People’s Council belonging to the Dutch East India Company. Official events like signing of international agreements have been repeatedly hosted here.
