Air-conditioned buses operate from Southern Bus Terminal at Bangkok to Surat Thani. Buses are also available to Surat Thani from Phuket and Hat Yai.
Most bus services are available from the major Bangkok public bus stations and Khao San Road. These overnight buses depart in the evening and travel southwards to halt at Suratthani.
Overnight Super VIP buses are more comfortable with air conditioned double-decker vehicles having toilets and reclining seats. Blankets are also supplied. All buses stop at least once for refreshment, but little or no food or drink is served on board. Videos and films are shown on board usually till 10 pm.
It takes about 13 hours to travel from Bangkok to Koh Samui by bus. Buses depart everyday from the Southern Bus Terminal of Bangkok at 7.30 pm for Koh Samui. The Songserm Rungrueang Co. Ltd. operates bus services from Bangkok to Koh Samui. These buses leave daily at 5 pm and arrive at Koh Samui at 11 am the next day.
