Though direct rail service is not available to Koh Samui Island, trains do operate on a regular basis from Bangkok to Surat Thani. Passengers can undertake an overnight trip in air-conditioned or compartments with fans to Surat Thani and avail a convenient boat transfer to the island.
Travellers heading towards Koh Samui can board trains from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Railway station to reach Surat Thani. The journey would take around 13 hours. From Surat Thani Railway station connecting buses are available to the ferry pier from where ferries go to Koh Samui.
Trains connecting Surat Thani to Bangkok are equipped with air conditioned first class cabins and fan-cooled second class berths.
