Accommodation in Koh Tao ranges from economical guesthouses to luxurious hotels. There are simple bungalows to beach huts which provide satisfactory services. A majority of the diving schools provide their own accommodation facilities to divers.
 
Almost all cabanas, resorts and hotels are at accessible distances from the beaches in Ao Chalok Ban Kao and Hat Sai Ri. Other accommodation options are available in the isolated bays.

The east coast is a secluded area and tourists can hire a taxi boat or a four-wheeler taxi to go there. Another quiet area is the island’s northern part that has the Mango Bay and some hillside resorts. The steep roads can make access to this part of the island a little difficult.

Tourists should keep in mind that the checkout time in Koh Tao hotels is usually early. This is mainly to cater to tourists who arrive from the mainland, on the early boats.

Home-stays are increasingly becoming popular as this gives tourists a chance to experience the lifestyle and culture of Thailand, first hand.

Koh Tao offers accommodation facilities which are suitable for both the business and leisure traveller. The island offers high-end to budget hotels where facilities like meeting rooms, banquet halls, outdoor swimming pool, air-conditioners and Wi-Fi are easily available. Other facilities include beauty salons, bars, discotheques, fitness facilities etc. Car rentals, medical services, business halls, shuttle services are also available and the hotels are in close proximity to golf courses and shopping centres.

The peak season in the island ranges between November and May. From November to January, the weather is pleasant and hence this is the ideal time to visit Koh Tao. Prices also shoot up during the King’s Birthday, Songkran and the Chinese New Year. However, accommodation is cheapest during the off season months of June to October.   

Koh Tao hotels charge a VAT of 7% and a service tax of 10%.
